| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize the members of Austin High School's Ballet Folklórico |

| 4 | 4 | | on the occasion of the program's 15th rebirth anniversary, which |

| 5 | 5 | | is being celebrated at its Gran Show de Primavera on May 3, |

| 6 | 6 | | 2019; and |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, Ballet Folklórico is a for-credit, self-funded |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | program and working dance company at Austin High School; the |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | group produces about 20 shows during the school year, and the |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | dancers close out each year with the annual Gran Show de |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Primavera; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, This year is Ballet Folklórico's 15th anniversary |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | of the program's rebirth because the company lost sponsorship in |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | the 1990s; it was reorganized by Maura Patricia Masters, who was |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | hired in 2003 and continues to direct the program today; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Ballet Folklórico succeeds through the efforts of |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | every dancer and the guidance of chief instructor and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | choreographer Victoria Carr; a student officer corps helps lead |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | the group and assists in every aspect of the organization, from |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | instruction to purchasing costumes and other items; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, The talented dancers of Ballet Folklórico perform |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | throughout the greater Austin community and compete at events |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | around the state; their 2019 Gran Show de Primavera, Nuestra |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Historia, will celebrate both the history of the dance company |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | and the history of Mexico; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Legislature, hereby commend all associated with Ballet |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Folklórico at Austin High School for promoting cultural and |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | performing arts in their community and extend to them best wishes |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | for a memorable 15th anniversary Gran Show de Primavera; and, be |
