| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Marfa Martians of Marfa Elementary School |

| 3 | 3 | | have won great distinction for themselves and their school by |

| 4 | 4 | | placing a scientific experiment on the International Space |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | Station; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, After winning a schoolwide competition, a |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | microgravity experiment designed by this group of gifted fourth |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | through sixth grade girls was selected by a panel of scientists |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | in Washington, D.C., to be tested aboard the International Space |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Station; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, The experiment is one of only 41 projects from |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | across the nation to be selected this year by the Student |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Spaceflight Experiments Program, which is an initiative of the |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | National Center for Earth and Space Science Education and the |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Arthur C. Clarke Institute for Space Education; since the |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | program was established in 2010, only one percent of the projects |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | have been sent into space; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, The Marfa Martians include fourth graders Madison |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Cash, Daniela Fernandez, Colette Fowlkes, and Mabel Melgaard, |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | fifth grader Charlotte Browning, and sixth grader Ashley |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Marquez; these talented girls are the youngest team of |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | microgravity researchers to be selected this year; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, These outstanding students are a source of great |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | pride to their families, school, and community, and their hard |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | work and ingenuity are truly deserving of special recognition; |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Legislature, hereby congratulate the Marfa Martians for placing |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | an experiment on the International Space Station and extend to |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | these accomplished young Texans sincere best wishes for |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | continued success and a bright future; and, be it further |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be |

| 33 | 33 | | prepared for the Marfa Martians as an expression of high regard |
|---|
