5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times and |

6 | 6 | | meaningful accomplishments remain to comfort the family and |
---|
7 | 7 | | friends of Charles H. Jackson, who died on April 21, 2019, at the |
---|
8 | 8 | | age of 87; and |
---|
9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The descendent of a pioneering ranching family in |
---|
10 | 10 | | San Angelo, Charles Jackson was born to R. H. and Leah Graham |
---|
11 | 11 | | Jackson on February 9, 1932; he was raised on a ranch in |
---|
12 | 12 | | Schleicher County and baptized in the South Concho River, and |
---|
13 | 13 | | after beginning his education in a one-room schoolhouse, he |
---|
14 | 14 | | attended San Marcos Military Academy and graduated from Eldorado |
---|
15 | 15 | | High School; he went on to study at San Angelo College and Texas |
---|
16 | 16 | | Tech University; and |
---|
17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, In 1951, Mr. Jackson married Imogene Wheeler, and |
---|
18 | 18 | | the couple shared a rewarding marriage that spanned 68 years; he |
---|
19 | 19 | | was the proud father of four children, John, Pat, Janet, and |
---|
20 | 20 | | Charles, and later in life, he was "Pepaw" to his eight |
---|
21 | 21 | | grandchildren, John, Jonathan, Christina, Kristen, Stephanie, |
---|
22 | 22 | | Joel, Patrick, and Kate, and his four great-grandchildren, |
---|
23 | 23 | | George, Grace, Landon, and Brooklyn; and |
---|
24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, After living in San Angelo and Ozona, Mr. Jackson |
---|
25 | 25 | | and his family settled in Big Lake, where he and his wife operated |
---|
26 | 26 | | Farm and Ranch Supply and maintained ranching operations in |
---|
27 | 27 | | Reagan and Schleicher Counties for many years; Mr. Jackson |
---|
28 | 28 | | served as president of the Big Lake Chamber of Commerce & |
---|
29 | 29 | | Industry and the Reagan County School Board, and he was an |
---|
30 | 30 | | honorary director of the Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers |
---|
31 | 31 | | Association; and |
---|
32 | 32 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Jackson shared his expertise, his work ethic, |
---|
33 | 33 | | and his passion for ranching with his children and grandchildren; |
---|
34 | 34 | | he enjoyed meeting new people, and he delighted in telling |
---|
35 | 35 | | stories, playing dominoes and horseshoes, and hunting and |
---|
36 | 36 | | fishing; a man of profound faith, he was a leading member of First |
---|
37 | 37 | | Baptist Church Big Lake for more than half a century, serving as a |
---|
38 | 38 | | deacon, treasurer, Sunday school teacher, and song leader; and |
---|
39 | 39 | | WHEREAS, Charles Jackson lived a rich and purposeful life |
---|
40 | 40 | | centered on his family, his faith, and his community, and he will |
---|
41 | 41 | | long be remembered with deep affection by all who were privileged |
---|
42 | 42 | | to know him; now, therefore, be it |
---|
43 | 43 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
---|
44 | 44 | | Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the memory of Charles |
---|
45 | 45 | | H. Jackson and extend heartfelt sympathy to his loved ones; and, |
---|
46 | 46 | | be it further |
---|
47 | 47 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be |
---|
48 | 48 | | prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns |
---|
49 | 49 | | this day, it do so in memory of Charles H. Jackson. |
