55 WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times and
66 meaningful accomplishments remain to comfort the family and
77 friends of Charles H. Jackson, who died on April 21, 2019, at the
88 age of 87; and
99 WHEREAS, The descendent of a pioneering ranching family in
1010 San Angelo, Charles Jackson was born to R. H. and Leah Graham
1111 Jackson on February 9, 1932; he was raised on a ranch in
1212 Schleicher County and baptized in the South Concho River, and
1313 after beginning his education in a one-room schoolhouse, he
1414 attended San Marcos Military Academy and graduated from Eldorado
1515 High School; he went on to study at San Angelo College and Texas
1616 Tech University; and
1717 WHEREAS, In 1951, Mr. Jackson married Imogene Wheeler, and
1818 the couple shared a rewarding marriage that spanned 68 years; he
1919 was the proud father of four children, John, Pat, Janet, and
2020 Charles, and later in life, he was "Pepaw" to his eight
2121 grandchildren, John, Jonathan, Christina, Kristen, Stephanie,
2222 Joel, Patrick, and Kate, and his four great-grandchildren,
2323 George, Grace, Landon, and Brooklyn; and
2424 WHEREAS, After living in San Angelo and Ozona, Mr. Jackson
2525 and his family settled in Big Lake, where he and his wife operated
2626 Farm and Ranch Supply and maintained ranching operations in
2727 Reagan and Schleicher Counties for many years; Mr. Jackson
2828 served as president of the Big Lake Chamber of Commerce &
2929 Industry and the Reagan County School Board, and he was an
3030 honorary director of the Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers
3131 Association; and
3232 WHEREAS, Mr. Jackson shared his expertise, his work ethic,
3333 and his passion for ranching with his children and grandchildren;
3434 he enjoyed meeting new people, and he delighted in telling
3535 stories, playing dominoes and horseshoes, and hunting and
3636 fishing; a man of profound faith, he was a leading member of First
3737 Baptist Church Big Lake for more than half a century, serving as a
3838 deacon, treasurer, Sunday school teacher, and song leader; and
3939 WHEREAS, Charles Jackson lived a rich and purposeful life
4040 centered on his family, his faith, and his community, and he will
4141 long be remembered with deep affection by all who were privileged
4242 to know him; now, therefore, be it
4343 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th
4444 Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the memory of Charles
4545 H. Jackson and extend heartfelt sympathy to his loved ones; and,
4646 be it further
4747 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
4848 prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns
4949 this day, it do so in memory of Charles H. Jackson.
