1	1	SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 67
2	2	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
3	3	recognize Golden Soror Brenda Eikner-Jones, a 50-year member of
4	4	Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, who is being honored by
5	5	Alpha Xi Omega Chapter at its Founders' Day Luncheon on
6	6	February 23, 2019; and
7	7	WHEREAS, Alpha Xi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha
8	8	Sorority was established on June 6, 1929, through the efforts of
9	9	Florence Harlee Phelps, who also served as the chapter's first
10	10	president; through programs of service, the chapter has long
11	11	worked to encourage young women to develop high standards of
12	12	character and to strive for excellence in educational
13	13	achievement, and it annually recognizes long-standing sorority
14	14	members at its Founders' Day Luncheon; and
15	15	WHEREAS, Brenda Eikner-Jones was inducted into Gamma Psi
16	16	Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority at Texas Southern
17	17	University in Houston in 1969; over the years, she has remained a
18	18	loyal member of the sorority and has served as a mentor and role
19	19	model to countless sisters; and
20	20	WHEREAS, Brenda Eikner-Jones is truly deserving of
21	21	recognition for her longtime membership in Alpha Kappa Alpha
22	22	Sorority and for the important role she has played in helping
23	23	Alpha Xi Omega Chapter fulfill its mission of encouraging high
24	24	scholastic and ethical standards, promoting unity and
25	25	friendship, addressing problems that concern girls and women,
26	26	and being of service to all mankind; now, therefore, be it
27	27	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th
28	28	Legislature, hereby commend Golden Soror Brenda Eikner-Jones on
29	29	her dedicated service and her many achievements and extend to her
30	30	congratulations on being honored by Alpha Xi Omega Chapter of
31	31	Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority at its 2019 Founders' Day Luncheon;
32	32	and, be it further
33	33	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
34	34	her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
