55 WHEREAS, Bill Scudder of Texarkana, an esteemed Texan and
66 a friend to many, passed away on January 27, 2019, at the age of
77 75; and
88 WHEREAS, The son of Willie Tom and Robbie Nell Parks
99 Scudder, Bill Scudder was born in Lamar County on January 11,
1010 1944; after graduating from Paris High School, where he was on
1111 the football, basketball, and baseball teams, he went on to
1212 attend Paris Junior College and played baseball for the Dragons
1313 for two years; he then received a scholarship to play baseball
1414 for the Crimson Tide, and he graduated from the University of
1515 Alabama with a bachelor's degree in education in 1966; and
1616 WHEREAS, Mr. Scudder began his teaching career with the
1717 Paris Independent School District; in 1969, he became the coach
1818 for the Blossom Bulldogs boys' basketball program, and he led the
1919 team to a district championship as well as an impressive playoff
2020 run; the following year, he began coaching for the newly
2121 consolidated high school in Prairiland Independent School
2222 District, where he eventually coached the 1986 Prairiland
2323 Patriots baseball team to a 3A state championship; he served the
2424 district as a dedicated coach, educator, and athletic director
2525 for more than three decades, mentoring thousands of young Texans
2626 over the course of his career before retiring in 2000; and
2727 WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Scudder enjoyed the
2828 love and support of his wife of 53 years, Sue, and he was the
2929 proud father of three children, Scott, Amy, and Jan; a man of
3030 faith, he was a member of Moores Lane Baptist Church in
3131 Texarkana; and
3232 WHEREAS, Bill Scudder lived a life that was rich in
3333 personal and professional achievements, and he will forever be
3434 remembered with admiration and affection; now, therefore, be it
3535 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th
3636 Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the memory of Bill Scudder and
3737 extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his
3838 wife, Sue Carter Scudder; to his children, Scott Scudder and his
3939 wife, Tracy, Amy Pickelman and her husband, Jason, and Jan
4040 Anderson and her husband, Kurt; to his grandchildren, Reed Scott
4141 Scudder, William Trey Scudder, Kylee Sue Scudder, Ryan Scott
4242 Pickelman, Rebecca Grace Pickelman, Tucker Thomas Anderson,
4343 Rebekah Rose Anderson, and William Buchanan Anderson; and to his
4444 other relatives and friends; and, be it further
4545 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
4646 prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns
4747 this day, it do so in memory of Bill Scudder.
