5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Bill Scudder of Texarkana, an esteemed Texan and |

6 | 6 | | a friend to many, passed away on January 27, 2019, at the age of |

8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The son of Willie Tom and Robbie Nell Parks |
---|
9 | 9 | | Scudder, Bill Scudder was born in Lamar County on January 11, |
---|
10 | 10 | | 1944; after graduating from Paris High School, where he was on |
---|
11 | 11 | | the football, basketball, and baseball teams, he went on to |
---|
12 | 12 | | attend Paris Junior College and played baseball for the Dragons |
---|
13 | 13 | | for two years; he then received a scholarship to play baseball |
---|
14 | 14 | | for the Crimson Tide, and he graduated from the University of |
---|
15 | 15 | | Alabama with a bachelor's degree in education in 1966; and |
---|
16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Scudder began his teaching career with the |
---|
17 | 17 | | Paris Independent School District; in 1969, he became the coach |
---|
18 | 18 | | for the Blossom Bulldogs boys' basketball program, and he led the |
---|
19 | 19 | | team to a district championship as well as an impressive playoff |
---|
20 | 20 | | run; the following year, he began coaching for the newly |
---|
21 | 21 | | consolidated high school in Prairiland Independent School |
---|
22 | 22 | | District, where he eventually coached the 1986 Prairiland |
---|
23 | 23 | | Patriots baseball team to a 3A state championship; he served the |
---|
24 | 24 | | district as a dedicated coach, educator, and athletic director |
---|
25 | 25 | | for more than three decades, mentoring thousands of young Texans |
---|
26 | 26 | | over the course of his career before retiring in 2000; and |
---|
27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Scudder enjoyed the |
---|
28 | 28 | | love and support of his wife of 53 years, Sue, and he was the |
---|
29 | 29 | | proud father of three children, Scott, Amy, and Jan; a man of |
---|
30 | 30 | | faith, he was a member of Moores Lane Baptist Church in |
---|
31 | 31 | | Texarkana; and |
---|
32 | 32 | | WHEREAS, Bill Scudder lived a life that was rich in |
---|
33 | 33 | | personal and professional achievements, and he will forever be |
---|
34 | 34 | | remembered with admiration and affection; now, therefore, be it |
---|
35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
---|
36 | 36 | | Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the memory of Bill Scudder and |
---|
37 | 37 | | extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his |
---|
38 | 38 | | wife, Sue Carter Scudder; to his children, Scott Scudder and his |
---|
39 | 39 | | wife, Tracy, Amy Pickelman and her husband, Jason, and Jan |

40 | 40 | | Anderson and her husband, Kurt; to his grandchildren, Reed Scott |
