| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize the Indian American Friendship Council on the occasion |

| 4 | 4 | | of Indian American Festival Day, which is taking place May 4, |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | 2019, in Coppell; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The Indian American Friendship Council was |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | founded in 1990 by Dr. Krishna Reddy; its mission is to improve |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | relations between the United States and India, support |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | developing nations, promote global democracy, and protect the |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | interests of the Indian American community; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, The council has been instrumental in forging ties |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | between the United States Congress and the Indian Parliament, and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | it has played a pivotal role in making the Caucus on India and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Indian Americans the largest caucus in the United States House of |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Representatives; the council organizes an annual legislative |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | conference in Washington, D.C., that is attended by more than 120 |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | members of Congress; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Indian American Festival Day provides a valuable |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | opportunity for Texans to learn about India's rich culture and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | history; with the theme of Merge into the Mainstream, this year's |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | event will feature noted Indian performing artists along with a |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | wide range of family activities; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, The Indian American Friendship Council has played |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | a vital role in cementing relations between India and the United |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | States, the world's two largest democracies, and it is truly |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | deserving of special recognition for its advocacy; now, |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | therefore, be it |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Legislature, hereby commend the Indian American Friendship |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Council on its many contributions to the Indian American |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | community and extend to its members best wishes for a memorable |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Indian American Festival Day; and, be it further |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
