1	1	SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 682
2	2	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
3	3	recognize Cooper McGough for his civic engagement and his
4	4	commitment to improving his community and his state; and
5	5	WHEREAS, Cooper McGough, who recently celebrated his 11th
6	6	birthday, is a skilled athlete and a straight-A student who
7	7	inspires those around him with his initiative and leadership, his
8	8	humility and concern for others, and the sportsmanship he
9	9	demonstrates in his many athletic pursuits; he has enjoyed great
10	10	success in Math Olympics, and his soccer team won a national
11	11	championship; and
12	12	WHEREAS, He is a fifth grader at Scofield Christian School,
13	13	and when choosing a topic for his science project, he decided to
14	14	focus on saving lives; he had noticed that there has been an
15	15	18-year streak of daily deaths on Texas highways, so for his
16	16	project, he created an awareness campaign using social media and
17	17	the Internet to try to bring that streak to an end; and
18	18	WHEREAS, In addition to raising awareness, his campaign
19	19	provides information about safe driving habits and encourages
20	20	people to commit themselves to keeping Texas roadways safe; and
21	21	WHEREAS, Cooper worked with the Texas Transportation
22	22	Commission and city leaders in Dallas to further his goal, and he
23	23	also created a website where people can join his campaign and
24	24	pledge to follow his five points of action for safer driving:
25	25	watch your speed, always buckle up, yield and pray, never drive
26	26	drunk, and eliminate distractions; and
27	27	WHEREAS, Cooper McGough is an exemplary young man who is
28	28	alreadyhavingaprofoundimpactonhiscommunity through his
29	29	public-spirited and creative approach to improving traffic
30	30	safety, and it is truly fitting that he receive special
31	31	recognition; now, therefore, be it
32	32	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th
33	33	Legislature, hereby commend Cooper McGough on his commitment to
34	34	improving his community and his state and extend to him best
35	35	wishes for continued success in all his endeavors; and, be it
36	36	further
37	37	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
38	38	him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
