SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 686 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Aida A. Montanaro, who is retiring from the Brownsville Independent School District after 25 years of exemplary service; and WHEREAS, A native of Matamoros, Mexico, Aida Montanaro moved to the United States in 1984, and she has built a rewarding career helping the children of Brownsville to develop the skills they need to succeed as the next generation of leaders; and WHEREAS, Aida began working for the school district at Southmost Elementary School in 1994; while there, she was filmed teaching a lesson that was used as a training video in the Esperanza program for many years; she was also highlighted in the Brownsville Herald about research-based teaching strategies in the lower grades; and WHEREAS, After seven years at Southmost, she joined the first group of teachers at Paredes Elementary School; in her 13 years with the school, she coached the district's first elementary level Destination Imagination team which made it to a global tournament, and she led the school chess team to national competitions every year; and WHEREAS, Aida is retiring from her position as a Spanish teacher at the Senator Eddie A. Lucio Middle School, where she has helped to promote a culture of excellence through her kind and spirited example; and WHEREAS, Wherever she has served, Aida Montanaro has been beloved by students and respected by her colleagues; she is a truly gifted educator, and her presence in the Brownsville Independent School District will be greatly missed; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th Legislature, hereby commend Aida A. Montanaro on her outstanding career and her many contributions to the Brownsville community and extend to her best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
