55 WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with
66 the passing of John A. Williams III of Lindale on April 2, 2019,
77 at the age of 81; and
88 WHEREAS, The son of John and Lurlyne Williams, John
99 Williams was born in Dallas on May 16, 1937, and he grew up with
1010 the companionship of his sister, Betsy; after graduating from
1111 Highland Park High School in 1955, he attended Southern Methodist
1212 University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in business
1313 administration and was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity; and
1414 WHEREAS, Mr. Williams began his career working in his
1515 father's printing company; in the mid-1960s, he was hired as
1616 chief executive officer of Ben Griffith Enterprises, and he
1717 managed 19 companies under that name; he later went into real
1818 estate development and eventually became co-owner of East Texas
1919 Realty; more recently, he had served as a real estate broker for
2020 Century 21, and his enjoyment of the work led him to return
2121 several times after retiring; and
2222 WHEREAS, An active member of his community, Mr. Williams
2323 served as president of the Lindale Rotary Club and the Lindale
2424 Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, and he was a Master
2525 Mason of the Colfax Masonic Lodge No. 904 in Van; in his leisure
2626 time, he delighted in fishing, hunting, playing tennis, flying,
2727 and collecting pre-Columbian art and antiques; a man of faith, he
2828 read the Bible regularly; and
2929 WHEREAS, Above all else, Mr. Williams was devoted to his
3030 wife, Kathy, and he took great pride in his five children,
3131 Leslie, Lorrie, John, Teresa, and Shelby, and eight
3232 grandchildren, Evan, Carson, Matthew, Hayden, Anderson,
3333 Lawrence, Gracie, and Levi; and
3434 WHEREAS, While the death of John Williams brings
3535 immeasurable sorrow to his family and friends, he leaves behind a
3636 legacy that will long be treasured by all those who held him dear;
3737 now, therefore, be it
3838 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th
3939 Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life of John A. Williams
4040 III and extend sincere condolences to all who mourn his passing;
4141 and, be it further
4242 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
4343 prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns
4444 this day, it do so in memory of John Williams.
