5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with |

6 | 6 | | the passing of John A. Williams III of Lindale on April 2, 2019, |
---|
7 | 7 | | at the age of 81; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The son of John and Lurlyne Williams, John |
---|
9 | 9 | | Williams was born in Dallas on May 16, 1937, and he grew up with |
---|
10 | 10 | | the companionship of his sister, Betsy; after graduating from |
---|
11 | 11 | | Highland Park High School in 1955, he attended Southern Methodist |
---|
12 | 12 | | University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in business |
---|
13 | 13 | | administration and was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity; and |
---|
14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Williams began his career working in his |
---|
15 | 15 | | father's printing company; in the mid-1960s, he was hired as |
---|
16 | 16 | | chief executive officer of Ben Griffith Enterprises, and he |
---|
17 | 17 | | managed 19 companies under that name; he later went into real |
---|
18 | 18 | | estate development and eventually became co-owner of East Texas |
---|
19 | 19 | | Realty; more recently, he had served as a real estate broker for |
---|
20 | 20 | | Century 21, and his enjoyment of the work led him to return |
---|
21 | 21 | | several times after retiring; and |
---|
22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, An active member of his community, Mr. Williams |
---|
23 | 23 | | served as president of the Lindale Rotary Club and the Lindale |
---|
24 | 24 | | Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, and he was a Master |
---|
25 | 25 | | Mason of the Colfax Masonic Lodge No. 904 in Van; in his leisure |
---|
26 | 26 | | time, he delighted in fishing, hunting, playing tennis, flying, |
---|
27 | 27 | | and collecting pre-Columbian art and antiques; a man of faith, he |
---|
28 | 28 | | read the Bible regularly; and |
---|
29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Above all else, Mr. Williams was devoted to his |
---|
30 | 30 | | wife, Kathy, and he took great pride in his five children, |
---|
31 | 31 | | Leslie, Lorrie, John, Teresa, and Shelby, and eight |
---|
32 | 32 | | grandchildren, Evan, Carson, Matthew, Hayden, Anderson, |
---|
33 | 33 | | Lawrence, Gracie, and Levi; and |
---|
34 | 34 | | WHEREAS, While the death of John Williams brings |
---|
35 | 35 | | immeasurable sorrow to his family and friends, he leaves behind a |
---|
36 | 36 | | legacy that will long be treasured by all those who held him dear; |
---|
37 | 37 | | now, therefore, be it |
---|
38 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
---|
39 | 39 | | Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life of John A. Williams |
---|
40 | 40 | | III and extend sincere condolences to all who mourn his passing; |

42 | 42 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be |
