11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 693
22 WHEREAS, The short animated documentary about Caddo Lake
33 There's Something in the Water is receiving considerable
44 attention on the film festival circuit in 2019; and
55 WHEREAS, The only naturally occurring lake in Texas, Caddo
66 Lake has been infested since 2006 by giant salvinia, an invasive
77 species of fern that originated in Brazil; the Caddo Biocontrol
88 Alliance and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department are working
99 to control the species, which blocks sunlight and decreases the
1010 amount of oxygen in the water, to the detriment of native
1111 species; and
1212 WHEREAS, There's Something in the Water is an eight-minute
1313 animated film featuring interviews with people who live and work
1414 on the lake; the film was directed by Rory WT, a London-based
1515 animator whose previous work has appeared on the BBC, Adult Swim,
1616 and Nature; it was produced by Shannon Wynne, a Texas
1717 restaurateur who purchased a camp on Caddo Lake in 1986, and
1818 Stephanie M. Casey, the owner of the Dallas-based marketing and
1919 communications firm Lovage Inc.; the associate producer is
2020 Daniel Villanueva, a radio/television/film graduate of the
2121 University of North Texas and a staffer at Lovage; and
2222 WHEREAS, The film is an official selection at eight film
2323 festivals in the spring of 2019, including the Earth Day Film
2424 Festival, the Sonoma International Film Festival, the Thin Line
2525 Film Festival, the Pasadena International Film Festival, the
2626 Environmental Film Festival at Yale, the Dallas International
2727 Film Festival, the EarthxFilm Festival, and the Manhattan Film
2828 Festival; and
2929 WHEREAS, This informative, entertaining, and provocative
3030 film promises to raise awareness about the serious situation at
3131 Caddo Lake, and its filmmakers are truly deserving of special
3232 recognition; now, therefore, be it
3333 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th
3434 Legislature, hereby commend the filmmaking team of There's
3535 Something in the Water and extend to them sincere best wishes for
3636 continued success with their production; and, be it further
3737 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
3838 prepared for the filmmakers as an expression of high regard by
3939 the Texas Senate.
