4	4	Houston Daniel
5	5	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
6	6	commemorates the life of Houston Daniel, who died March 6, 2019,
7	7	at the age of 73; and
8	8	WHEREAS, Houston Daniel was born on July 1, 1945, in Lexington,
9	9	Virginia, to Price Daniel, who would later serve as Texas governor,
10	10	and Jean Baldwin Daniel; his great-great-great-grandfather was Sam
11	11	Houston; and
12	12	WHEREAS, After graduating from Baylor University in 1967,
13	13	he served in the Army National Guard and later earned a degree
14	14	from The University of Texas School of Law in 1971; he practiced
15	15	law and owned a rare-book store in Austin for a time before
16	16	returning to his hometown of Liberty, where he practiced law for
17	17	more than 40 years; and
18	18	WHEREAS, As a member of a family that included a president
19	19	of the Republic of Texas and a governor of the State of Texas, he
20	20	took seriously the preservation of the state's historic legacy,
21	21	and he held memberships in a range of organizations dedicated to
22	22	that end, including the Texas State Historical Association, the
23	23	Atascosito Historical Society, and the Bullock Texas State
24	24	History Museum; he was appointed by Governor Ann Richards to the
25	25	Sam Houston Bicentennial Celebration Commission; and
26	26	WHEREAS, He and his beloved wife, Charlotte Daniel, were
27	27	blessed with two sons, John Price Daniel and Timothy Houston
28	28	Daniel, and his grandson, Jonah, was a source of much pride and
29	29	joy for him; and
30	30	WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and generosity, he
31	31	gave unselfishly to others, and his thoughtfulness, humor, and
32	32	optimistic nature will not be forgotten by those who were
33	33	privileged to share in his life; and
34	34	WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather,
35	35	and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by his
36	36	family and countless friends; now, therefore, be it
37	37	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th
38	38	Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
39	39	family of Houston Daniel; and, be it further
40	40	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
41	41	his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
42	42	Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
43	43	memory of Houston Daniel.
