|---|
| 5 | 5 | | independent, objective assurance and consulting, which improves |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | an organization's operations; and |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, Internal auditing helps identify and manage an |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | organization's risks and ensures that policies, procedures, and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | controls are in place and working appropriately; state auditors |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | bring a systematic, disciplined approach to evaluating and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | improving the effectiveness of risk management, control, and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | governing processes; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, An increasingly sophisticated and complex |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | activity, internal auditing requires specialized knowledge, |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | training, and education; the process ensures that organizations |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | are accountable to their stakeholders, whether those |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | stakeholders are investors or the general public; by using a |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | risk-based approach to review and monitor an organization's |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | processes and activities, internal auditors protect assets and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | information and identify and prevent fraud, security breaches, |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | noncompliance, and inefficiencies; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Internal auditing is an established profession |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | that is led by the Institute of Internal Auditors; the institute |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | has a globally recognized code of ethics and sets international |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | standards for the professional practice of internal auditing; and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Internal auditors play an invaluable role in the |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | success of state agencies, organizations, and the global economy |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | at large, and they deserve our recognition and commendation; now, |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | therefore, be it |

| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Legislature, hereby recognize the month of May as International |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Internal Audit Awareness Month and commend all associated with |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | the internal auditing profession for their immeasurable |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | contributions to this state and nation. |
