| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | join the citizens of Corpus Christi and Texans across the state |

| 4 | 4 | | in celebrating the 100th anniversary of the H. Boyd Hall Branch |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | People; and |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, The H. Boyd Hall Branch of the NAACP held its |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | first meeting on February 7, 1919; its original 56 members |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | demonstrated great courage and determination by establishing the |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | organization at a time of widespread discrimination and violence |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | against African Americans; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Since its founding, the branch has played a vital |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | role in changing the landscape of the Coastal Bend by working to |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | raise awareness of the importance of civil rights issues and to |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | bring opportunities to the disenfranchised and underserved |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | people of the community; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, The branch has organized countless Juneteenth |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | events and health fairs, and it has brought together people from |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | all walks of life to celebrate the many achievements of |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.; members of the branch have worked in |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | partnership with other civil rights organizations to foster |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | progress and diversity in the community; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, The H. Boyd Hall Branch of the NAACP has been |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | instrumental in raising awareness of the importance of equality |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | and social justice, and it is truly fitting that it receive |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | special recognition as it reaches this milestone in its history; |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Legislature, hereby commend the H. Boyd Hall Branch of the NAACP |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | on its commitment to civil rights and longtime service to the |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | community and extend to its members best wishes for a memorable |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | 100th anniversary celebration; and, be it further |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
