11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 709
22 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
33 recognize Chief Alan B. Benson of The Woodlands Fire Department,
44 who is retiring after more than 14 years of service to The
55 Woodlands Township and 39 years of service in the field of fire
66 and rescue; and
77 WHEREAS, An expert in fire safety, Alan Benson
88 distinguished himself for professional excellence during his
99 25-year career with the Oklahoma City Fire Department, which
1010 included three years of service as fire chief; he further served
1111 the community as an instructor for the Federal Emergency
1212 Management Agency and Oklahoma State University; and
1313 WHEREAS, Throughout his career, Chief Benson has overseen
1414 emergency management after many natural disasters and
1515 catastrophic events; he gained widespread recognition in his
1616 role as operations chief during the aftermath of the Oklahoma
1717 City bombing of 1995 and during the tornado disaster of 1999; and
1818 WHEREAS, Chief Benson joined The Woodlands Fire Department
1919 in 2005, and he has since helped the department expand to meet the
2020 growing needs of the community; his many accomplishments include
2121 guiding the construction of several new fire stations and a
2222 state-of-the-art Emergency Training Center, and his expertise
2323 was indispensable during such disasters as Hurricane Ike and
2424 Hurricane Harvey; and
2525 WHEREAS, Under Chief Benson's leadership, the Insurance
2626 Services Office of The Woodlands Fire Department earned the
2727 highest rating, an honor shared by less than a quarter of one
2828 percentoffiredepartmentsnationwide;heisahighlyesteemed
2929 fire safety professional and a trusted leader in the community,
3030 and his presence at The Woodlands Fire Department will be greatly
3131 missed; now, therefore, be it
3232 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th
3333 Legislature, hereby commend Fire Chief Alan B. Benson on his
3434 exceptional career and on his many contributions to the
3535 communities in which he has served and extend to him best wishes
3636 for the future; and, be it further
3737 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
3838 him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
