| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Chief Alan B. Benson of The Woodlands Fire Department, |

| 4 | 4 | | who is retiring after more than 14 years of service to The |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | Woodlands Township and 39 years of service in the field of fire |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | and rescue; and |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, An expert in fire safety, Alan Benson |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | distinguished himself for professional excellence during his |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | 25-year career with the Oklahoma City Fire Department, which |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | included three years of service as fire chief; he further served |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | the community as an instructor for the Federal Emergency |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Management Agency and Oklahoma State University; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Throughout his career, Chief Benson has overseen |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | emergency management after many natural disasters and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | catastrophic events; he gained widespread recognition in his |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | role as operations chief during the aftermath of the Oklahoma |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | City bombing of 1995 and during the tornado disaster of 1999; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Chief Benson joined The Woodlands Fire Department |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | in 2005, and he has since helped the department expand to meet the |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | growing needs of the community; his many accomplishments include |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | guiding the construction of several new fire stations and a |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | state-of-the-art Emergency Training Center, and his expertise |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | was indispensable during such disasters as Hurricane Ike and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Hurricane Harvey; and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Under Chief Benson's leadership, the Insurance |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Services Office of The Woodlands Fire Department earned the |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | highest rating, an honor shared by less than a quarter of one |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | percentoffiredepartmentsnationwide;heisahighlyesteemed |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | fire safety professional and a trusted leader in the community, |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | and his presence at The Woodlands Fire Department will be greatly |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | missed; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | Legislature, hereby commend Fire Chief Alan B. Benson on his |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | exceptional career and on his many contributions to the |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | communities in which he has served and extend to him best wishes |
