55 WHEREAS, The citizens of San Antonio lost an esteemed
66 community leader with the death of Daniel B. Markson on
77 May 4, 2019, at the age of 59; and
88 WHEREAS, A graduate of Clark University, Dan Markson
99 earned his master's degree in business administration from
1010 Babson College before settling in the Alamo City; as executive
1111 vice president of development for The NRP Group and cofounder of
1212 the organization's Texas office, he championed affordable
1313 housing for people of all incomes, and over the course of his
1414 three-decade career, he spearheaded the creation of more than
1515 20,000 apartment homes; he was known as an advocate for the
1616 city's most vulnerable populations, and he pioneered efforts to
1717 combine affordable housing with supportive services to improve
1818 the lives of low-income families; and
1919 WHEREAS, Mr. Markson shared his time with the Texas
2020 Affiliation of Affordable Housing Providers, the Texas
2121 Association of Builders, and the National Association of Home
2222 Builders, where he was national director for the Greater San
2323 Antonio Builders Association; furthermore, he was a member of the
2424 Federal Government Affairs and Housing Finance Committee of
2525 NAHB, and he was a past chair of the NAHB Multifamily Finance
2626 Subcommittee; and
2727 WHEREAS, Active in his community of faith, Mr. Markson
2828 served on the board of Temple Beth-El San Antonio, was a former
2929 board member of Jewish Family Service of San Antonio, and had
3030 recently received the Chabad Center for Jewish Life and
3131 Learning's 2018 Distinguished Community Service Award; he also
3232 supported the Southwest School of Art and the César E. Chávez
3333 Legacy and Educational Foundation; and
3434 WHEREAS, Above all else, Mr. Markson was the proud father
3535 of his beloved son, Maury; and
3636 WHEREAS, Dan Markson earned the admiration of all who knew
3737 him, not only for his success as a real estate developer but also
3838 for his exceptional kindness and generosity, and he leaves behind
3939 a legacy that will resonate in the San Antonio community for
4040 years to come; now, therefore, be it
4141 RESOLVED, That tribute be paid to the life of Daniel
4242 B. Markson and that sincere condolences be extended to all who
4343 mourn his passing.
