| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | join Friends of Memorial Lane and the citizens of Hood County in |

| 4 | 4 | | celebrating National Police Week, which is taking place May 12 |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | through 18, 2019; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Peace officers are a select group of brave men and |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | women who dedicate their lives to the protection and safekeeping |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | of their fellow citizens and who serve our nation and this great |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | state, regardless of dangerous circumstances and risks to their |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | personal safety; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, As a tribute to these invaluable civil servants, |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | the 87th United States Congress and President John F. Kennedy |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | designated May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week of |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | May 15 as Police Week; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Proud traditions since 1962, these observances |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | provide an excellent opportunity for citizens to reflect on the |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | unique responsibilities and challenges of law enforcement duty |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | and to honor active and fallen peace officers for their |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | exceptional service and sacrifice; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, The Friends of Memorial Lane organization is |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | holding a ceremony in Granbury on May 11, 2019, to begin this |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | important event; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Legislature, hereby commend Friends of Memorial Lane and the |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | citizens of Hood County on their commitment to supporting our |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | state's peace officers and extend to them best wishes for a |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | productive and memorable National Police Week kickoff event; |
|---|
