1	1	SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 728
2	2	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
3	3	recognize Ida Hagg of Rio Hondo for her exceptional work in
4	4	support of the men and women serving overseas in the nation's
5	5	armed forces; and
6	6	WHEREAS, Ida Hagg is the founder of the AdoptaPlatoon
7	7	Soldier Support Effort, a nonprofit organization established in
8	8	1998 with the mission of serving deployed members of the United
9	9	States military by providing care packages that improve their
10	10	quality of life and raise their morale; and
11	11	WHEREAS, Mrs. Hagg was inspired to create this enterprise
12	12	by her son, the late Chauncey Hagg, while he was serving in the
13	13	United States Army in Bosnia; Chauncey noticed that many of his
14	14	fellow soldiers did not receive packages from home while he
15	15	received them daily; he asked his mother to send 10 packages to
16	16	reassure his comrades that they were not forgotten by their
17	17	countrymen; and
18	18	WHEREAS, The 10 daily packages soon expanded to include
19	19	Chauncey's entire platoon; as other units became aware of her
20	20	generosity, demand soon outstripped her ability to meet her goals,
21	21	and she created the AdoptaPlatoon network of volunteers; and
22	22	WHEREAS, Today, the organization has thousands of
23	23	volunteers and 17 employees, and it sends out about 30,000 care
24	24	packages, cards, and letters of support each month; these
25	25	valuable reminders from home contain such items as laundry
26	26	detergent, personal care supplies, blankets, cookies, and
27	27	snacks, and the organization has responded to special requests
28	28	with additional projects to provide mosquito repellent,
29	29	sunglasses, school supplies, and seasonal holiday morale
30	30	boosters; and
31	31	WHEREAS, AdoptaPlatoon has also created a campaign to
32	32	assist injured troops and provides emergency financial
33	33	assistance for military veterans; it is truly fitting that Ida
34	34	Hagg receive special recognition for the profound impact she has
35	35	had on the lives of the men and women serving in the nation's
36	36	armed forces; now, therefore, be it
37	37	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th
38	38	Legislature, hereby commend Ida Hagg on her exceptional work with
39	39	the AdoptaPlatoon Soldier Support Effort and extend to her best
40	40	wishes for continued success in this invaluable endeavor; and, be
41	41	it further
42	42	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
43	43	her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
