| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Family and friends will forever treasure their |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | memories of George Allen Hanger, a decorated veteran of three |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | wars, who died on April 11, 2019, at the age of 94; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Born on November 1, 1924, in Paris, Missouri, to |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Lee and Gertrude Hanger, George Hanger was drafted into the |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | United States Army in February 1943, and in June 1944, he was one |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | of the brave Americans who came ashore under fire at Omaha Beach |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | on D-Day; he went on to hold a distinguished three-decade career |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | in the army, serving in Korea as well as two tours of duty in |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Vietnam; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, This brave soldier's many medals and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | commendations included three Bronze Stars with two oak leaf |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | clusters, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Republic of Vietnam |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Armed Forces Honor Medal, and the Croix de Guerre with palm, as |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | well as numerous unit citations; he retired in 1975, at the rank |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | of chief warrant officer 3; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Hanger and his wife, Edeltraud, were married |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | in Fulda, Germany, in 1953, and they shared 65 years together, |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | until her death in 2018; they were blessed with two children, |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Terry and Rex, and their family later grew to include a |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | son-in-law, Roger, a daughter-in-law, Melissa, and three |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | grandchildren, Kristen, Alex, and Craig; and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, After his retirement from the army, Mr. Hanger |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | settled in Killeen, where he continued his education, attending |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | CentralTexasJuniorCollegeandearningabachelor'sdegreefrom |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | American Technological University; he remained proud of his |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | years in the military, and he served on the Fort Hood Retirement |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Council and the Commissary Board; he and his wife also |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | participated in many volksmarching events over the years, |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | walking thousands of kilometers across the nation; and |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | WHEREAS, A loving husband, a devoted father and |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | grandfather, and a proud military veteran, George Hanger lived a |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | rich and purposeful life, and he leaves behind a legacy of |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | courage and service to others that his loved ones can remember |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | with pride; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the memory of George Allen |
|---|
| 42 | 42 | | Hanger and extend heartfelt sympathy to his relatives and |
|---|
| 43 | 43 | | friends; and, be it further |
|---|
| 44 | 44 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be |

| 45 | 45 | | prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns |
