SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 734
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize John P. LaRue, who is retiring on June 30, 2019, after
25 years of exceptional service as executive director of the Port
of Corpus Christi Authority; and
WHEREAS, John LaRue assumed his role at the Port of Corpus
Christi Authority in 1994, after having served as executive
director of the Philadelphia Regional Port Authority; and
WHEREAS, Under Mr. LaRue's leadership, the Port of Corpus
Christi Authority has grown from a regional organization to what
is now the fourth-largest port in the United States in tonnage;
an internationally recognized expert on port strategy, he has
been instrumental in setting state and national port policy, and
he has been an effective advocate for critical national
infrastructure funding; and
WHEREAS, Mr. LaRue has been active in a wide range of
professional and civic organizations, including the Port
Industries of Corpus Christi, the Texas Department of
Transportation Port Advisory Committee, the American Association
of Port Authorities, the United Way, and the Gulf of Mexico
Foundation; he will continue to serve the Port of Corpus Christi
Authority in a senior advisory capacity after his retirement; and
WHEREAS, An exemplary administrator, he is respected and
admired by his colleagues, and his presence as executive director
at the Port of Corpus Christi Authority will be greatly missed;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th
Legislature, hereby commend John P. LaRue on his outstanding
service as executive director of the Port of Corpus Christi
Authority and extend to him best wishes for continued success in
all his endeavors; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
