1	1	SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 738
2	2	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
3	3	commemorates the lives of all Texas students who are no longer with
4	4	us because of untimely, unexpected, and preventable deaths; and
5	5	WHEREAS, Four bright and beloved young Texans, namely,
6	6	Dalton Debrick of Texas Tech University, Matthew Ellis of Texas
7	7	State University, Joseph Little of Texas A&M University, and
8	8	Nicky Cumberland of The University of Texas at Austin, have died
9	9	in recent years from hazing or due to circumstances related to
10	10	hazing; and
11	11	WHEREAS, These young men were dedicated students and
12	12	cherished sons, brothers, and friends; and
13	13	WHEREAS, Many who knew and loved them have raised their
14	14	voices and taken action to educate others about the dangers of
15	15	hazing, and many have served as advocates for greater
16	16	accountability and transparency at colleges and universities
17	17	throughout Texas and the nation; and
18	18	WHEREAS, Hazing is a dangerous and pervasive practice that
19	19	has been implicated in the deaths of too many of this state's
20	20	promising young people and has caused long-term physical,
21	21	psychological, and emotional harm to countless others; and
22	22	WHEREAS, Many student organizations and school sponsors,
23	23	educators, and alumni are striving to ensure the health and
24	24	safety of all who might be subject to the practice of hazing; now,
25	25	therefore, be it
26	26	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th
27	27	Legislature, hereby extend its sincerest condolences to the
28	28	bereaved families, friends, and peers of the victims of hazing and
29	29	commend them for dedicating their time and efforts to ensure that
30	30	in the future no others need grieve the consequences of hazing.
