SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 746 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize the Lions Clubs International Texas State Convention, which is being held May 30 through June 1, 2019, in Waxahachie; and WHEREAS, Lions Clubs International was founded in 1917 by Chicago businessman Melvin Jones; with the motto of "We Serve," this invaluable organization supports a wide range of global causes and focuses on areas related to vision, diabetes, hunger, the environment, and childhood cancer; and WHEREAS, The Leo Club Program is an important part of Lions Clubs International; the Leo Clubs provide young people an opportunity for development and chances to contribute to their communities; based on the principles of leadership, experience, and opportunity, Leo Clubs are providing young people in more than 140 countries around the world the ability to have a positive influence on their societies; and WHEREAS, The Lions Clubs International Texas State Convention is being hosted by the Waxahachie Lions Club, which was established in 1925 and which has sponsored three Leo Clubs; and WHEREAS, For more than 100 years, Lions Clubs International has been a global leader in service, and its members have made a difference in the lives of countless people around the world; it is truly fitting that this exemplary organization receive special recognition; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th Legislature, hereby commend the members of Lions Clubs International and the Waxahachie Lions Club on their commitment to serving others and extend to them best wishes for a successful and memorable 2019 Lions Clubs International Texas State Convention; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in honor of this special occasion.
