5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and |

6 | 6 | | commemorates the life of Judith Blanton Wilkerson, who died |

7 | 7 | | April 26, 2019, at the age of 89; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Judy Blanton was born on April 5, 1930, in Temple, |
---|
9 | 9 | | to Katherine and Melvin Blanton; she attended The University of |
---|
10 | 10 | | Texas at Austin, where she met the love of her life, the late |
---|
11 | 11 | | William Wilkerson; they were married for nearly 65 years and were |
---|
12 | 12 | | blessed with three children, David Wilkerson, Katie Wilkerson |
---|
13 | 13 | | Carnes, and Noel Wilkerson Holmes; her four grandchildren and her |
---|
14 | 14 | | great-granddaughter were a source of much pride and joy for |
---|
15 | 15 | | her; and |
---|
16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Judy enjoyed a long and distinguished career as a |
---|
17 | 17 | | journalist; she and her husband were involved in publishing the |
---|
18 | 18 | | Comanche Chief and owned the De Leon Free Press before acquiring |
---|
19 | 19 | | the Pleasanton Express, which won hundreds of awards in the time |
---|
20 | 20 | | they owned it; she was known as a principled journalist who gave |
---|
21 | 21 | | voice to women and minorities, and she was also active in a number |
---|
22 | 22 | | of professional and community organizations, notably the South |
---|
23 | 23 | | Texas Press Association and the Pleasanton Chamber of |
---|
24 | 24 | | Commerce; and |
---|
25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, |
---|
26 | 26 | | and she was a dynamic leader in the Pleasanton community, and |
---|
27 | 27 | | later, in the Austin community; she was known for her unwavering |
---|
28 | 28 | | commitment to helping the less fortunate, and she leaves behind |
---|
29 | 29 | | memories that will be treasured forever by her family and |
---|
30 | 30 | | countless friends; now, therefore, be it |
---|
31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
---|
32 | 32 | | Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
---|
33 | 33 | | family of Judith Blanton Wilkerson; and, be it further |
---|
34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |

35 | 35 | | her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
