2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, Rey A. Saldaña is concluding his service as a member |

3 | 3 | | of the San Antonio City Council in 2019, drawing to a close a tenure |
---|
4 | 4 | | distinguished by significant progress and achievement; and |
---|
5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Saldaña became the youngest ever member of the |
---|
6 | 6 | | San Antonio City Council following his election to that office in |
---|
7 | 7 | | May 2011 when he was just 24 years old; since then, he has ably |
---|
8 | 8 | | represented the interests of his constituents by supporting |
---|
9 | 9 | | health and fitness initiatives, advocating for student access to |
---|
10 | 10 | | mental health resources, and working to improve public transport |
---|
11 | 11 | | and infrastructure; among his most impressive accomplishments is |
---|
12 | 12 | | the transformation of Pearsall Park from a landfill into a |
---|
13 | 13 | | 505-acre regional park featuring splash pads, running and biking |
---|
14 | 14 | | courses, a zip line, a skate park, and a disc golf course; and |
---|
15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, In addition to fulfilling his duties as a public |
---|
16 | 16 | | official, Mr. Saldaña has taught at Trinity University and Palo |
---|
17 | 17 | | Alto College for a number of years; he previously worked in the |
---|
18 | 18 | | Vice President's Office for Community Service at The University |
---|
19 | 19 | | of Texas at San Antonio and served as chief engagement officer |
---|
20 | 20 | | for KIPP San Antonio; he has further contributed to his fellow |
---|
21 | 21 | | citizens as a mentor with Big Brothers Big Sisters and the Boys |
---|
22 | 22 | | and Girls Club of San Antonio, and he has given generously of his |
---|
23 | 23 | | time and talents as a national board member of Communities In |
---|
24 | 24 | | Schools, which recognized him in 2017 with the All In for |
---|
25 | 25 | | Students Award; and |
---|
26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, A graduate of South San Antonio High School, |
---|
27 | 27 | | Mr. Saldaña continued his education at Stanford University, |
---|
28 | 28 | | where he earned bachelor's degrees in political science and |
---|
29 | 29 | | communication and a master's degree in policy, organization, and |
---|
30 | 30 | | leadership studies; in all his endeavors, he enjoys the love and |
---|
31 | 31 | | support of his wife, Jessica, and he takes great pride in their |
---|
32 | 32 | | son, Eli; and |
---|
33 | 33 | | WHEREAS, Through his dedication, leadership, and expertise, |
---|
34 | 34 | | Rey Saldaña has made a positive and lasting difference in the San |
---|
35 | 35 | | Antonio community, and he may indeed reflect with pride on all |
---|
36 | 36 | | that he has accomplished in its behalf; now, therefore, be it |
---|
37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
---|
38 | 38 | | Legislature, hereby commend Rey A. Saldaña for his service on the |
---|
39 | 39 | | San Antonio City Council and extend to him sincere best wishes |
---|
40 | 40 | | for the future; and, be it further |
---|
41 | 41 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be |
