11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 767
22 WHEREAS, Texans and people around the globe were deeply
33 saddened by the campus shooting that took place at Santa Fe High
44 School on May 18, 2018, which resulted in the loss of 10 innocent
55 lives; and
66 WHEREAS, The victims included eight students, Jared Conard
77 Black, Shana Fisher, Christian Riley Garcia, Aaron Kyle McLeod,
88 Angelique Ramirez, Sabika Sheikh, Christopher Stone, and
99 Kimberly Vaughan, who ranged in age from 14 to 18; also killed
1010 were two substitute teachers, Glenda Ann Perkins and Cynthia
1111 Tisdale, and 13 other individuals were wounded in the attack; and
1212 WHEREAS, First responders and school resource officers
1313 demonstrated outstanding bravery in helping evacuate the
1414 building and in confronting, containing, and ultimately
1515 apprehending the gunman; and
1616 WHEREAS, The incident has deeply impacted the town of Santa
1717 Fe; present on that fateful day were 1,435 students and 85
1818 teachers, and they, along with the bereaved families of the
1919 victims, have experienced immense heartbreak; though the journey
2020 to healing has proven difficult, the community has shown its
2121 resilience and compassion during this time of need, as neighbors
2222 have come together to support and comfort those most affected; and
2323 WHEREAS, In pausing to reflect on this solemn anniversary,
2424 we remember those whose lives were lost, and our hearts go out to
2525 the many whose lives were forever altered; now, therefore, be it
2626 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th
2727 Legislature, hereby extend condolences to the people of Santa Fe
2828 on the occasion of the one-year anniversary of the Santa Fe High
2929 School shooting and commend the efforts of those who have
3030 promoted unity and healing in the aftermath of this tragedy.
