44 Edward Samuel Hicks Sr.
55 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
66 citizens of Corpus Christi in mourning the loss of Edward Samuel
77 Hicks Sr., who died April 25, 2019, at the age of 84; and
88 WHEREAS, Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on April 29, 1934, Ed
99 Hicks was a revered citizen who will be remembered for his
1010 devotion to family and passion for professional excellence and
1111 for his many contributions to the community; and
1212 WHEREAS, Mr. Hicks began his career in 1959 as a salesman
1313 at Patterson Chevrolet in Detroit, Michigan; he moved to Corpus
1414 Christi in 1966 and opened Ed Hicks Motors, and over the next five
1515 decades his holdings increased to five area franchises,
1616 including Mercedes-Benz and Nissan franchises; his companies
1717 succeeded with the help of 250 employees, with whom he enjoyed
1818 bonds of mutual loyalty and respect; and
1919 WHEREAS, Ed shared a rewarding life with Gloria Hicks, his
2020 wife of 61 years; they were blessed with three children, and
2121 their three grandchildren enriched his life immeasurably; and
2222 WHEREAS, In all things, Ed followed the principles of his
2323 Christian faith, and he gave generously in support of law
2424 enforcement, medical institutions, education, and the arts; he
2525 was founder and chairman of the Corpus Christi Police Foundation,
2626 and he fostered his love of aviation by serving as president of
2727 the board of the Corpus Christi International Airport; and
2828 WHEREAS, A man of exceptional wisdom and kindness, Ed Hicks
2929 was a trusted friend to many, and he leaves behind a legacy of
3030 philanthropy and service that will be an inspiration to others
3131 for years to come; now, therefore, be it
3232 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th
3333 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
3434 family of Edward Samuel Hicks Sr.; and, be it further
3535 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
3636 his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
3737 Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
3838 memory of Ed Hicks.
