5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the |

6 | 6 | | citizens of Corpus Christi in mourning the loss of Edward Samuel |
---|
7 | 7 | | Hicks Sr., who died April 25, 2019, at the age of 84; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on April 29, 1934, Ed |
---|
9 | 9 | | Hicks was a revered citizen who will be remembered for his |
---|
10 | 10 | | devotion to family and passion for professional excellence and |
---|
11 | 11 | | for his many contributions to the community; and |
---|
12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Hicks began his career in 1959 as a salesman |
---|
13 | 13 | | at Patterson Chevrolet in Detroit, Michigan; he moved to Corpus |
---|
14 | 14 | | Christi in 1966 and opened Ed Hicks Motors, and over the next five |
---|
15 | 15 | | decades his holdings increased to five area franchises, |
---|
16 | 16 | | including Mercedes-Benz and Nissan franchises; his companies |
---|
17 | 17 | | succeeded with the help of 250 employees, with whom he enjoyed |
---|
18 | 18 | | bonds of mutual loyalty and respect; and |
---|
19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Ed shared a rewarding life with Gloria Hicks, his |
---|
20 | 20 | | wife of 61 years; they were blessed with three children, and |
---|
21 | 21 | | their three grandchildren enriched his life immeasurably; and |
---|
22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, In all things, Ed followed the principles of his |
---|
23 | 23 | | Christian faith, and he gave generously in support of law |
---|
24 | 24 | | enforcement, medical institutions, education, and the arts; he |
---|
25 | 25 | | was founder and chairman of the Corpus Christi Police Foundation, |
---|
26 | 26 | | and he fostered his love of aviation by serving as president of |
---|
27 | 27 | | the board of the Corpus Christi International Airport; and |
---|
28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, A man of exceptional wisdom and kindness, Ed Hicks |
---|
29 | 29 | | was a trusted friend to many, and he leaves behind a legacy of |
---|
30 | 30 | | philanthropy and service that will be an inspiration to others |
---|
31 | 31 | | for years to come; now, therefore, be it |
---|
32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
---|
33 | 33 | | Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
---|
34 | 34 | | family of Edward Samuel Hicks Sr.; and, be it further |
---|
35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
---|
36 | 36 | | his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
---|
37 | 37 | | Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
