| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Jacob Samuel Patiño, who has demonstrated an |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | impressive interest in public service and state government |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | through his advocacy on behalf of the victims of school |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | shootings; and |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, Jacob Patiño is a sixth-grade student in the |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | McAllen Independent School District; he is greatly concerned |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | about the ongoing loss of life taking place in school shootings |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | and the lost potential of the children who would never grow up to |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | achieve their dreams; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Jacob decided that he would take the initiative to |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | try to honor the children who were the victims of these senseless |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | shootings and the teachers who gave their lives defending |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | them; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, He wrote a moving letter to one of his elected |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | representatives, Senator Juan Hinojosa, and asked him to provide |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | guidance on ways to raise awareness of this important issue; as a |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | result of Jacob's letter, Senate Bill 133 was filed, legislation |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | that would designate May 18 each year as School Shooting Victims |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Remembrance Day; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Jacob has shown himself to be a thoughtful young |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | man and an exemplary advocate for those no longer able to speak |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | for themselves, and it is truly fitting that he receive special |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | recognition; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Legislature, hereby commend Jacob Samuel Patiño on his |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | commitment to serving others and extend to him best wishes for |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | continued success in all his endeavors; and, be it further |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |

| 31 | 31 | | him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate. |
