2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

3 | 3 | | recognize Chris King for his exemplary service as director of |

4 | 4 | | athletics at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley; and |
---|
5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, In over nine years of leadership in the Department |
---|
6 | 6 | | of Intercollegiate Athletics, Chris King has raised the standard |
---|
7 | 7 | | of Division I Athletics and shaped a thriving department that |
---|
8 | 8 | | proudly represents the Rio Grande Valley campus and strives to |
---|
9 | 9 | | inspire excellence in the classroom, in competition, and in the |
---|
10 | 10 | | community; and |
---|
11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Today, the university is ranked second in the |
---|
12 | 12 | | Western Athletic Conference, and it has won a combined total of |
---|
13 | 13 | | 36 individual and team championship titles since joining the |
---|
14 | 14 | | conference in 2013; athletes have also set new records in hours |
---|
15 | 15 | | of service and volunteering, outreach, and campus engagement |
---|
16 | 16 | | while outperforming the general student body in both grade point |
---|
17 | 17 | | average and graduation rates; and |
---|
18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Mr. King and his staff have made great strides in |
---|
19 | 19 | | increasing general fund-raising, ticket sales, and corporate |
---|
20 | 20 | | sponsorships; new funding streams have made possible extensive |
---|
21 | 21 | | renovations to existing facilities and the construction of new, |
---|
22 | 22 | | state-of-the-art playing fields and training centers; and |
---|
23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Chris King is a highly esteemed athletic |
---|
24 | 24 | | administrator who has fostered a culture of integrity at the |
---|
25 | 25 | | university and helped the intercollegiate athletics department |
---|
26 | 26 | | establish a solid foundation for future prosperity; he is moving |
---|
27 | 27 | | on to serve as vice president and director of athletics at his |
---|
28 | 28 | | alma mater, Robert Morris University, in Pennsylvania; now, |
---|
29 | 29 | | therefore, be it |

30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
---|
31 | 31 | | Legislature, hereby commend Chris King for helping to shape a |
---|
32 | 32 | | leading athletics department at The University of Texas Rio |
---|
33 | 33 | | Grande Valley and extend to him best wishes for continued success |
---|
