| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | meaningful accomplishments remain to comfort the family and |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | friends of Dr. Hong-Kyu Park of Tyler, who passed away on April 9, |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | 2019, at the age of 81; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, A native of South Korea and a United |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | States citizen, H. K. Park moved to the United States in 1957 to |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | attend Kentucky Wesleyan College; after receiving his bachelor's |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | degree, he went on to earn a master's degree from the University of |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Tennessee and a doctorate from the University of North Texas; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, In the course of a successful career in higher |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | education that spanned half a century, Dr. Park taught United |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | States history and government at several East Texas schools, |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | including Wiley College, Jarvis Christian College, and Tyler |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Junior College; moreover, he worked at Kilgore College for 22 |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | years before retiring in 2015; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Dr. Park enjoyed the love |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | and support of his wife, Younghea "Anne" Park, with whom he |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | shared 51 years of marriage; he was further blessed with a son, |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Jason, and a daughter-in-law, Emily; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, H. K. Park led a life that was rich in personal |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | and professional achievements, and he will forever be a source of |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | inspiration to those he leaves behind; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the memory of Dr. Hong-Kyu |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Park and extend sincere condolences to all who mourn his passing; |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | and, be it further |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns |
