SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 779 WHEREAS, The promise of democracy has been preserved by the hundreds of thousands of Americans who have fought and died for our freedoms, and the Duncanville community has lost many in the endeavor to protect the ideals that our nation holds dear; over the years, residents have honored those who made the ultimate sacrifice with the installation of two memorial monuments; and WHEREAS, The city established the first Duncanville War Memorial 100 years ago, in 1919, when the devastation of World War I weighed heavy on the hearts of all Americans; the community again paid tribute to local patriots in 1969 with the construction of a second war memorial, this one at the corner of Main Street and Center Street; an eternal flame has been burning at that site since the monument's installation half a century ago; and WHEREAS, The Duncanville War Memorials remind the residents of Duncanville each day to honor those who put their lives on the line to ensure the continued safety and prosperity of the nation; it is indeed fitting that the community will celebrate the 100th anniversary and the 50th anniversary of the Duncanville War Memorials on Memorial Day in 2019; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th Legislature, hereby commend the citizens of Duncanville for their efforts to honor those who lost their lives in service to their country and extend to them best wishes for a meaningful Memorial Day event; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the city as a memento of this important day.
