| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The promise of democracy has been preserved by the |

| 3 | 3 | | hundreds of thousands of Americans who have fought and died for |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | our freedoms, and the Duncanville community has lost many in the |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | endeavor to protect the ideals that our nation holds dear; over |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | the years, residents have honored those who made the ultimate |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | sacrifice with the installation of two memorial monuments; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The city established the first Duncanville War |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Memorial 100 years ago, in 1919, when the devastation of World |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | War I weighed heavy on the hearts of all Americans; the community |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | again paid tribute to local patriots in 1969 with the |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | construction of a second war memorial, this one at the corner of |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Main Street and Center Street; an eternal flame has been burning |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | at that site since the monument's installation half a century |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | ago; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, The Duncanville War Memorials remind the |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | residents of Duncanville each day to honor those who put their |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | lives on the line to ensure the continued safety and prosperity |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | of the nation; it is indeed fitting that the community will |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | celebrate the 100th anniversary and the 50th anniversary of the |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Duncanville War Memorials on Memorial Day in 2019; now, |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | therefore, be it |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Legislature, hereby commend the citizens of Duncanville for |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | their efforts to honor those who lost their lives in service to |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | their country and extend to them best wishes for a meaningful |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Memorial Day event; and, be it further |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | the city as a memento of this important day. |
