| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Habitat for Humanity Texas and the organization's |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | invaluable contributions to citizens throughout the state; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Many Texans spend more than half of their income |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | on their housing needs, and those that do so are faced with a |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | financial burden that is difficult to manage; the goal of Habitat |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | for Humanity Texas is to lessen that burden by building |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | affordable homes and providing home rehabilitation, repair, and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | construction; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Homeownership correlates to better societal |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | outcomes across the state, such as increases in college |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | attendance and decreases in teen pregnancy, and Habitat for |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Humanity Texas affiliates have served 42,000 Texans since its |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | inception; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Operating with the strong belief that all Texans |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | deserve a safe place to call home, Habitat for Humanity Texas |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | affiliates have constructed 8,630 new homes since 1976 and have |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | completed 5,485 home rehabilitations and repairs; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Habitat for Humanity Texas provides support to |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | its affiliates to serve families and build homes and also |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | provides other services that focus on veteran housing and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | disaster recovery; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Legislature, hereby proclaim January 29, 2019, Habitat for |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Humanity Texas Day and pay tribute to the organization for its |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | outstanding service on behalf of the citizens of the Lone Star |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | State; and, be it further |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | honor of Habitat for Humanity Texas. |
