2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, Vicente Ramirez of San Antonio embodied the |

5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, A 1959 graduate of Harlandale High School, Vince |
---|
6 | 6 | | Ramirez graduated from the Texas Department of Public Safety |
---|
7 | 7 | | Academy in January 1963, and on March 4, 1964, he became one of |
---|
8 | 8 | | the first two Hispanic highway patrolmen in the department's |
---|
9 | 9 | | history; he went on to work for several years with the DPS |
---|
10 | 10 | | Criminal Intelligence Division, and he later provided security |
---|
11 | 11 | | for Governor John Connally and Lieutenant Governor Preston Smith |
---|
12 | 12 | | at the 1968 World's Fair in San Antonio; he joined the United |
---|
13 | 13 | | States Customs Service in 1972; and |
---|
14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Ramirez became a special agent in Laredo for |
---|
15 | 15 | | the newly organized Drug Enforcement Administration in July |
---|
16 | 16 | | 1973, and for the next decade, he was on the front lines of the |
---|
17 | 17 | | war on drugs, interdicting illegal drugs and collecting |
---|
18 | 18 | | international intelligence on their cultivation and movement; in |
---|
19 | 19 | | this vital endeavor, he worked closely with the Mexican Federal |
---|
20 | 20 | | Police in the border states of Tamaulipas, Nuevo Leon, and |
---|
21 | 21 | | Coahuila; and |
---|
22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, In 1983, Agent Ramirez transferred to the San |
---|
23 | 23 | | Antonio DEA office, where he worked with the San Antonio |
---|
24 | 24 | | Narcotics Bureau and the narcotics unit of the San Antonio Police |
---|
25 | 25 | | Department; he rejoined the United States Customs Service in 1984 |
---|
26 | 26 | | as a member of the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Task |
---|
27 | 27 | | Force,whichtargetedthesmugglinganddistributionofdrugsand |
---|
28 | 28 | | the laundering of their proceeds; he retired in 1995, after more |
---|
29 | 29 | | than three decades of skilled and courageous service; and |

30 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Vince Ramirez was a trailblazing member of the law |
---|
31 | 31 | | enforcement community who made vital contributions to the |
---|
32 | 32 | | citizens of Bexar County, the State of Texas, and the United |
---|
33 | 33 | | States of America, and he may reflect with great pride on a career |
---|
34 | 34 | | well spent; now, therefore, be it |

35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |

36 | 36 | | Legislature, hereby commend Vicente Ramirez for his exemplary |
---|
37 | 37 | | career in law enforcement and extend to him sincere best wishes |
