| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize René Torres for his many years of outstanding service |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | to the communities of the Rio Grande Valley; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, René Torres is a distinguished educator who began |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | his career by serving as a teacher in the Brownsville Independent |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | School District; he went on to serve for many years as an |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | assistant professor at The University of Texas at |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Brownsville-Texas Southmost College School of Education; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, He is a graduate of Brownsville High School, where |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | he was a member of the Golden Eagles baseball team that advanced |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | to the Class 4A state championship game; he was inducted, along |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | with several of his teammates, into the Rio Grande Valley Sports |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Hall of Fame in 2007, and he has written extensively about the |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | history of baseball in the region; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, He has served on the boards of trustees of Texas |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Southmost College and the South Texas Independent School |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | District; he has also been active in a wide variety of civic and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | philanthropic organizations, including the Brownsville |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Community Health Clinic and the Esperanza Home for Boys; he is a |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | volunteer at the Historic Brownsville Museum; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Torres has received multiple honors for his |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | work, notably the Jefferson Award for Public Service; it is truly |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | fitting that he receive special recognition for his many |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | achievements; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Legislature, hereby commend René Torres on his many |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | contributions to the fabric of life in the Rio Grande Valley and |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | extend to him best wishes for continued success in all his |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | endeavors; and, be it further |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
