1	1	SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 799
2	2	WHEREAS, Dr. Kay K. Sanders, Director of the School of
3	3	Nurse Anesthesia at Texas Christian University, is the recipient
4	4	of the 2019 Helen Lamb Outstanding Educator Award from the
5	5	American Association of Nurse Anesthetists; and
6	6	WHEREAS, Established in 1980, the award recognizes certified
7	7	registered nurse anesthetists who further the art and science of
8	8	anesthesiology through their commitment to advancing educational
9	9	standards that result in high-quality patient care; and
10	10	WHEREAS, Dr. Sanders is the founding director of the nurse
11	11	anesthesia program at Texas Christian University, and she is
12	12	retiring on May 31, 2019, bringing to a close a distinguished
13	13	career that has spanned more than three decades; she has overseen
14	14	the department's curriculum since 1988, and she developed a new
15	15	anesthesia program for the university in 2003; she is the
16	16	longest-serving director of a program of this kind in Texas and
17	17	has been responsible for the training of more nurse anesthetists
18	18	than anyone else in state history; and
19	19	WHEREAS, Heralded as a consummate advocate who tirelessly
20	20	works to improve patient safety, Dr. Sanders is a past president
21	21	of the Texas Association of Nurse Anesthetists and continues to
22	22	support the entity in various capacities; moreover, she has held
23	23	leadership roles with the American Association of Nurse
24	24	Anesthetists, and she served as board president of the Council on
25	25	Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs; and
26	26	WHEREAS, The dedication, professionalism, and commitment to
27	27	excellence demonstrated by Dr. Kay Sanders have greatly benefited
28	28	the medical community and her fellow citizens, and she is indeed
29	29	deserving of this prestigious honor; now, therefore, be it
30	30	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th
31	31	Legislature, hereby congratulate Dr. Kay K. Sanders on her
32	32	receipt of the 2019 Helen Lamb Outstanding Educator Award and on
33	33	her retirement and extend to her sincere best wishes for the
34	34	future; and, be it further
35	35	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
36	36	Dr. Sanders as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
