11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 800
22 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
33 recognize Aida Ramirez, who is stepping down as the District 4
44 commissioner of the City of McAllen after 18 years of exemplary
55 service; and
66 WHEREAS, A trailblazing civic leader, Aida Ramirez was the
77 first Hispanic woman to be elected to the McAllen City
88 Commission; she won her seat as the District 4 commissioner in a
99 2001 special election, and she has since faithfully served the
1010 residents of southwest McAllen; and
1111 WHEREAS, Aida is known for her extensive knowledge of
1212 McAllen history; her expertise has been invaluable to policy
1313 making, and she has often been tasked with leading commission
1414 meetings when the mayor has been unable to attend; and
1515 WHEREAS, Aida Ramirez is devoted to her community, and for
1616 nearly two decades, she has been a trusted voice for the citizens
1717 of southwest McAllen; she is respected and admired by her
1818 colleagues and area citizens, and her presence on the commission
1919 will be greatly missed; now, therefore, be it
2020 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th
2121 Legislature, hereby commend Aida Ramirez for her outstanding
2222 civic leadership as McAllen's District 4 commissioner and extend
2323 to her best wishes for the future; and, be it further
2424 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
2525 her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
