11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 815
22 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
33 recognize Mary Matilda Factory, a beloved and accomplished
44 centenarian whose notable experiences and achievements have made
55 her a role model for many; and
66 WHEREAS, She was born Mary Matilda Johnson on January 17,
77 1919, in Blocker, Oklahoma, and she has built a rewarding life of
88 purpose through her commitment to her family, her church, and the
99 greater community; and
1010 WHEREAS, Mary graduated from Vernon High School in 1940,
1111 and she married John Lewis Factory the following year; she raised
1212 her family by loving example, and four of her seven children are
1313 still alive today; and
1414 WHEREAS, Mary Factory worked many jobs in her life; she was
1515 one of the first African Americans employed at the prestigious
1616 Boeing North American Rockwell facility in McAlester, Oklahoma,
1717 and during more than a decade of service at the plant, she earned
1818 a reputation as a highly skilled electronics assembler; and
1919 WHEREAS, Her work proved essential to the successful 1969
2020 Apollo 11 moon landing, and she was honored with the Apollo
2121 Achievement Award by the National Aeronautics and Space
2222 Administration; and
2323 WHEREAS, Mrs. Factory is a woman of deep spiritual
2424 devotion, and she has been a member of Mount Triumph Baptist
2525 Church for over 75 years; she continues to enjoy cooking,
2626 reading, and traveling, and she loves to share her life
2727 experiences with the younger members of her family; and
2828 WHEREAS, Mary Matilda Factory celebrated her 100th
2929 birthday in January of 2019, and in June of this year, she is
3030 being honored as a special guest at the Women's Leadership
3131 Summit, an event hosted in partnership with the University of
3232 North Texas at Dallas; she continues to engage life with joy and
3333 vigor, and she is truly an inspiration to all who know her; now,
3434 therefore, be it
3535 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th
3636 Legislature, hereby commend Mary Matilda Factory for her
3737 invaluable contributions to the American space program and her
3838 longtime leadership in the community; and, be it further
3939 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
4040 her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
