2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

3 | 3 | | recognize Mary Matilda Factory, a beloved and accomplished |
---|
4 | 4 | | centenarian whose notable experiences and achievements have made |
---|
5 | 5 | | her a role model for many; and |
---|
6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, She was born Mary Matilda Johnson on January 17, |
---|
7 | 7 | | 1919, in Blocker, Oklahoma, and she has built a rewarding life of |
---|
8 | 8 | | purpose through her commitment to her family, her church, and the |
---|
9 | 9 | | greater community; and |
---|
10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Mary graduated from Vernon High School in 1940, |
---|
11 | 11 | | and she married John Lewis Factory the following year; she raised |
---|
12 | 12 | | her family by loving example, and four of her seven children are |
---|
13 | 13 | | still alive today; and |
---|
14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Mary Factory worked many jobs in her life; she was |
---|
15 | 15 | | one of the first African Americans employed at the prestigious |
---|
16 | 16 | | Boeing North American Rockwell facility in McAlester, Oklahoma, |
---|
17 | 17 | | and during more than a decade of service at the plant, she earned |
---|
18 | 18 | | a reputation as a highly skilled electronics assembler; and |
---|
19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Her work proved essential to the successful 1969 |
---|
20 | 20 | | Apollo 11 moon landing, and she was honored with the Apollo |
---|
21 | 21 | | Achievement Award by the National Aeronautics and Space |
---|
22 | 22 | | Administration; and |
---|
23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Factory is a woman of deep spiritual |
---|
24 | 24 | | devotion, and she has been a member of Mount Triumph Baptist |
---|
25 | 25 | | Church for over 75 years; she continues to enjoy cooking, |
---|
26 | 26 | | reading, and traveling, and she loves to share her life |
---|
27 | 27 | | experiences with the younger members of her family; and |
---|
28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Mary Matilda Factory celebrated her 100th |
---|
29 | 29 | | birthday in January of 2019, and in June of this year, she is |
---|
30 | 30 | | being honored as a special guest at the Women's Leadership |
---|
31 | 31 | | Summit, an event hosted in partnership with the University of |
---|
32 | 32 | | North Texas at Dallas; she continues to engage life with joy and |
---|
33 | 33 | | vigor, and she is truly an inspiration to all who know her; now, |
---|
34 | 34 | | therefore, be it |
---|
35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
---|
36 | 36 | | Legislature, hereby commend Mary Matilda Factory for her |
---|
37 | 37 | | invaluable contributions to the American space program and her |
---|
38 | 38 | | longtime leadership in the community; and, be it further |
---|
39 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
---|
40 | 40 | | her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
