                    SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 819
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
 recognize the Port Arthur Education Foundation for its generous
 contributions to area schools and to their students, faculty, and
 staff; and
 WHEREAS, The Port Arthur Education Foundation was
 established to enhance academic excellence in area public
 schools by supporting innovative educational projects; and
 WHEREAS, In the two years since Hurricane Harvey made
 landfall on the Texas coastline, the Port Arthur Education
 Foundation has distributed more than $1.2 million in aid to the
 students and staff of the Port Arthur Independent School
 District, the Sabine Pass Independent School District, and Lamar
 State College-Port Arthur; and
 WHEREAS, Funds have been dispersed in the form of recovery
 grants, student scholarships, technology grants, and innovative
 teacher grants to address the specific needs of schools and
 individuals; and
 WHEREAS, Flourishing education systems are integral to
 strong communities, and the Port Arthur Education Foundation
 civic leaders work to ensure that students, teachers, and schools
 in Port Arthur can excel in education and can look to the future
 with confidence; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th
 Legislature, hereby commend all associated with the Port Arthur
 Education Foundation for helping area school systems and students,
 faculty, and staff to recover from the aftermath of Hurricane
 Harvey and to thrive in their communities; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 the foundation as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
