| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize the Port Arthur Education Foundation for its generous |

| 4 | 4 | | contributions to area schools and to their students, faculty, and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | staff; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The Port Arthur Education Foundation was |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | established to enhance academic excellence in area public |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | schools by supporting innovative educational projects; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, In the two years since Hurricane Harvey made |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | landfall on the Texas coastline, the Port Arthur Education |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Foundation has distributed more than $1.2 million in aid to the |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | students and staff of the Port Arthur Independent School |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | District, the Sabine Pass Independent School District, and Lamar |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | State College-Port Arthur; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Funds have been dispersed in the form of recovery |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | grants, student scholarships, technology grants, and innovative |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | teacher grants to address the specific needs of schools and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | individuals; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Flourishing education systems are integral to |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | strong communities, and the Port Arthur Education Foundation |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | civic leaders work to ensure that students, teachers, and schools |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | in Port Arthur can excel in education and can look to the future |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | with confidence; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Legislature, hereby commend all associated with the Port Arthur |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Education Foundation for helping area school systems and students, |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | faculty, and staff to recover from the aftermath of Hurricane |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Harvey and to thrive in their communities; and, be it further |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | the foundation as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
