55 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
66 citizens of Laredo in mourning the loss of Estela Zamora Kramer,
77 a beloved community leader, who died December 31, 2018, at the
88 age of 89; and
99 WHEREAS, Estela Kramer began her pioneering service to the
1010 Laredo community at the young age of 16, when she was hired as the
1111 first female swimming instructor to teach at the Laredo Boys
1212 Club; she went on to receive advanced dance training at Texas
1313 Woman's University, and in 1963, she was hired by the Laredo
1414 Independent School District to develop and direct the physical
1515 education department at the new J.W. Nixon High School; and
1616 WHEREAS, Mrs. Kramer established the school district's
1717 first dance team, the J.W. Nixon High School Golden Spurs, which
1818 went on to earn national and international acclaim; she also
1919 created the Silver Roses dance team at Cigarroa High School, and
2020 in 2012, the school district dedicated the Estela Zamora Kramer
2121 Gymnasium in her honor; in addition, Mrs. Kramer founded the
2222 Washington Birthday Celebration Association Youth Dance
2323 Festival; and
2424 WHEREAS, Mrs. Kramer shared a life of devotion with her
2525 husband, the late Walter Harry Kramer Jr., and she was blessed
2626 with three children, Betty Kramer, Walter Kramer III, and the
2727 late John David Kramer; and
2828 WHEREAS, Estela Kramer was a treasured citizen who made a
2929 lasting mark on the Laredo community, and she leaves behind
3030 memories that will long be cherished by all who were privileged
3131 to share in her life; now, therefore, be it
3232 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th
3333 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
3434 family of Estela Zamora Kramer; and, be it further
3535 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
3636 her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
3737 Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
3838 memory of Estela Kramer.
