5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the |
---|
6 | 6 | | citizens of Laredo in mourning the loss of Estela Zamora Kramer, |
---|
7 | 7 | | a beloved community leader, who died December 31, 2018, at the |
---|
8 | 8 | | age of 89; and |
---|
9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Estela Kramer began her pioneering service to the |
---|
10 | 10 | | Laredo community at the young age of 16, when she was hired as the |
---|
11 | 11 | | first female swimming instructor to teach at the Laredo Boys |
---|
12 | 12 | | Club; she went on to receive advanced dance training at Texas |
---|
13 | 13 | | Woman's University, and in 1963, she was hired by the Laredo |
---|
14 | 14 | | Independent School District to develop and direct the physical |
---|
15 | 15 | | education department at the new J.W. Nixon High School; and |
---|
16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Kramer established the school district's |
---|
17 | 17 | | first dance team, the J.W. Nixon High School Golden Spurs, which |
---|
18 | 18 | | went on to earn national and international acclaim; she also |
---|
19 | 19 | | created the Silver Roses dance team at Cigarroa High School, and |
---|
20 | 20 | | in 2012, the school district dedicated the Estela Zamora Kramer |
---|
21 | 21 | | Gymnasium in her honor; in addition, Mrs. Kramer founded the |
---|
22 | 22 | | Washington Birthday Celebration Association Youth Dance |
---|
23 | 23 | | Festival; and |
---|
24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Kramer shared a life of devotion with her |
---|
25 | 25 | | husband, the late Walter Harry Kramer Jr., and she was blessed |
---|
26 | 26 | | with three children, Betty Kramer, Walter Kramer III, and the |
---|
27 | 27 | | late John David Kramer; and |
---|
28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Estela Kramer was a treasured citizen who made a |
---|
29 | 29 | | lasting mark on the Laredo community, and she leaves behind |
---|
30 | 30 | | memories that will long be cherished by all who were privileged |
---|
31 | 31 | | to share in her life; now, therefore, be it |
---|
32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
---|
33 | 33 | | Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
---|
34 | 34 | | family of Estela Zamora Kramer; and, be it further |
---|
35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
---|
36 | 36 | | her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
---|
37 | 37 | | Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |

38 | 38 | | memory of Estela Kramer. |
