SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 823 In Memory of Shirley June Lee WHEREAS, Countless lives were touched by the kindness and generosity of Shirley June Lee of Tyler, who passed away on May 12, 2019, at the age of 78; and WHEREAS, The daughter of W. C. and Leola McElroy, the former Shirley McElroy was born in Dallas on June 22, 1940, and she grew up in Midlothian with three sisters, Sandy, Sherry, and Shanna; she graduated as salutatorian of the Midlothian High School Class of 1958; two years later, she married her high school sweetheart, James Lee; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Lee and her husband shared a supportive and rewarding marriage before his passing, and she took great pride in their sons, Greg, John, Robert, and the late Jeff Lee; with the passing years, she welcomed into her family eight grandchildren, Chase, Caitlin, Anna, Reagan, Jacob, James, Jordan, and Peyton, and two great-grandchildren, Ella and Audrey; and WHEREAS, A woman of deep faith, she attended First United Methodist Church while residing in Henderson, serving on several boards and committees and with the United Methodist Women, the Women's Forum, and the Renaissance Club; after relocating to Tyler in 1983, she joined Pollard United Methodist Church and went on to hold leadership positions on a number of church boards and committees and with United Methodist Women, and she participated in Pollard's Builder's Sunday school class; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Lee further enriched her community as a member of the Tyler Women's Forum, the Tuesday Reading Club, and the Lunch Bunch and as a volunteer with the United Way, the Salvation Army, and Creative Kids Learning Center; in her spare time, she enjoyed reading, playing mahjong, attending events at the Tyler Civic Theatre and the UT Tyler Cowan Center, and above all else, cherishing the company of loved ones; and WHEREAS, Shirley Lee led a caring and purposeful life, and her loss is keenly felt by all who were touched by her affection and friendship; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the memory of Shirley June Lee and extend heartfelt sympathy to her relatives and many friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be prepared for her family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Shirley June Lee.
