55 WHEREAS, Countless lives were touched by the kindness and
66 generosity of Shirley June Lee of Tyler, who passed away on May
77 12, 2019, at the age of 78; and
88 WHEREAS, The daughter of W. C. and Leola McElroy, the
99 former Shirley McElroy was born in Dallas on June 22, 1940, and
1010 she grew up in Midlothian with three sisters, Sandy, Sherry, and
1111 Shanna; she graduated as salutatorian of the Midlothian High
1212 School Class of 1958; two years later, she married her high
1313 school sweetheart, James Lee; and
1414 WHEREAS, Mrs. Lee and her husband shared a supportive and
1515 rewarding marriage before his passing, and she took great pride
1616 in their sons, Greg, John, Robert, and the late Jeff Lee; with the
1717 passing years, she welcomed into her family eight grandchildren,
1818 Chase, Caitlin, Anna, Reagan, Jacob, James, Jordan, and Peyton,
1919 and two great-grandchildren, Ella and Audrey; and
2020 WHEREAS, A woman of deep faith, she attended First United
2121 Methodist Church while residing in Henderson, serving on several
2222 boards and committees and with the United Methodist Women, the
2323 Women's Forum, and the Renaissance Club; after relocating to
2424 Tyler in 1983, she joined Pollard United Methodist Church and
2525 went on to hold leadership positions on a number of church boards
2626 and committees and with United Methodist Women, and she
2727 participated in Pollard's Builder's Sunday school class; and
2828 WHEREAS, Mrs. Lee further enriched her community as a
2929 member of the Tyler Women's Forum, the Tuesday Reading Club, and
3030 the Lunch Bunch and as a volunteer with the United Way, the
3131 Salvation Army, and Creative Kids Learning Center; in her spare
3232 time, she enjoyed reading, playing mahjong, attending events at
3333 the Tyler Civic Theatre and the UT Tyler Cowan Center, and above
3434 all else, cherishing the company of loved ones; and
3535 WHEREAS, Shirley Lee led a caring and purposeful life, and
3636 her loss is keenly felt by all who were touched by her affection
3737 and friendship; now, therefore, be it
3838 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th
3939 Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the memory of Shirley June Lee
4040 and extend heartfelt sympathy to her relatives and many friends;
4141 and, be it further
4242 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
4343 prepared for her family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns
4444 this day, it do so in memory of Shirley June Lee.
