5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Countless lives were touched by the kindness and |
---|
6 | 6 | | generosity of Shirley June Lee of Tyler, who passed away on May |
---|
7 | 7 | | 12, 2019, at the age of 78; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The daughter of W. C. and Leola McElroy, the |
---|
9 | 9 | | former Shirley McElroy was born in Dallas on June 22, 1940, and |
---|
10 | 10 | | she grew up in Midlothian with three sisters, Sandy, Sherry, and |
---|
11 | 11 | | Shanna; she graduated as salutatorian of the Midlothian High |
---|
12 | 12 | | School Class of 1958; two years later, she married her high |
---|
13 | 13 | | school sweetheart, James Lee; and |
---|
14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Lee and her husband shared a supportive and |
---|
15 | 15 | | rewarding marriage before his passing, and she took great pride |
---|
16 | 16 | | in their sons, Greg, John, Robert, and the late Jeff Lee; with the |
---|
17 | 17 | | passing years, she welcomed into her family eight grandchildren, |
---|
18 | 18 | | Chase, Caitlin, Anna, Reagan, Jacob, James, Jordan, and Peyton, |
---|
19 | 19 | | and two great-grandchildren, Ella and Audrey; and |
---|
20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, A woman of deep faith, she attended First United |
---|
21 | 21 | | Methodist Church while residing in Henderson, serving on several |
---|
22 | 22 | | boards and committees and with the United Methodist Women, the |
---|
23 | 23 | | Women's Forum, and the Renaissance Club; after relocating to |
---|
24 | 24 | | Tyler in 1983, she joined Pollard United Methodist Church and |
---|
25 | 25 | | went on to hold leadership positions on a number of church boards |
---|
26 | 26 | | and committees and with United Methodist Women, and she |
---|
27 | 27 | | participated in Pollard's Builder's Sunday school class; and |
---|
28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Lee further enriched her community as a |
---|
29 | 29 | | member of the Tyler Women's Forum, the Tuesday Reading Club, and |
---|
30 | 30 | | the Lunch Bunch and as a volunteer with the United Way, the |
---|
31 | 31 | | Salvation Army, and Creative Kids Learning Center; in her spare |
---|
32 | 32 | | time, she enjoyed reading, playing mahjong, attending events at |
---|
33 | 33 | | the Tyler Civic Theatre and the UT Tyler Cowan Center, and above |
---|
34 | 34 | | all else, cherishing the company of loved ones; and |
---|
35 | 35 | | WHEREAS, Shirley Lee led a caring and purposeful life, and |
---|
36 | 36 | | her loss is keenly felt by all who were touched by her affection |
---|
37 | 37 | | and friendship; now, therefore, be it |
---|
38 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
---|
39 | 39 | | Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the memory of Shirley June Lee |
---|
40 | 40 | | and extend heartfelt sympathy to her relatives and many friends; |
---|
41 | 41 | | and, be it further |
---|
42 | 42 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be |

43 | 43 | | prepared for her family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns |
