| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize the Texas chapter of the League of United Latin |

| 4 | 4 | | American Citizens on the occasion of the organization's 90th |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | anniversary, which is being celebrated May 30 through June 2, |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | 2019, at the Texas LULAC 90th State Convention and Expo; and |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, LULAC was founded in 1929, and the organization |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | has been a leader in the field of civil rights for 90 years; it |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | has championed the ideals of respect for human dignity and equal |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | access to education, health care, and housing and has worked to |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | resolve issues related to immigration, the judicial system, and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | voting rights; it is the largest and oldest civil rights |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | organization in the United States; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Through the years, LULAC has also worked to create |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | a common vision that will unite people from all demographic |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | groups and walks of life; the group has been a leader in building |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | coalitions with a wide range of organizations to help the nation |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | live up to its founding principles and ideals; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, For 90 years, Texas LULAC has been a steadfast |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | defender of civil rights and an untiring advocate for economic |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | opportunity and human dignity; state director Lupe Torres has |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | played a vital role in the organization's achievements, and her |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | lifetime of service to others has contributed greatly to her |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | outstanding leadership of Texas LULAC for the past three years; |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Legislature, hereby commend the members and leadership of the |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Texas chapter of the League of United Latin American Citizens on |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | their commitment to the common good and recognize June 1, 2019, |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | as Texas LULAC Day; and, be it further |
