5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and |

6 | 6 | | commemorates the life of Efrain Jesus "E. J." Laurel, who died |
---|
7 | 7 | | January 3, 2019, at the age of 86; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, E. J. Laurel was an exemplary citizen and a highly |
---|
9 | 9 | | respected law enforcement officer who was known for his courage, |
---|
10 | 10 | | commitment to public service, and attention to detail; he was |
---|
11 | 11 | | passionate about his work, and he had a positive impact on life in |
---|
12 | 12 | | Laredo and across the Rio Grande Valley; and |
---|
13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, He and his beloved wife, the late Alma Diana P. |
---|
14 | 14 | | Laurel, were blessed with five children, Efrain Laurel Jr., |
---|
15 | 15 | | Araceli Vasquez, Carlos Laurel, Clarissa Elizondo, and Diedra |
---|
16 | 16 | | Lizcano; his 14 grandchildren and his five great-grandchildren |
---|
17 | 17 | | were a source of much pride and joy for him; and |
---|
18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, A native of Laredo, E. J. Laurel began his 40-year |
---|
19 | 19 | | career in law enforcement by serving as a United States customs |
---|
20 | 20 | | agent; he later worked for a time with the Drug Enforcement |
---|
21 | 21 | | Administration before becoming the Webb County Precinct 4 |
---|
22 | 22 | | constable; he concluded his career by serving as chief of the |
---|
23 | 23 | | Laredo Police Department; and |
---|
24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Laurel held a master's degree in |
---|
25 | 25 | | interdisciplinary studies, and he was noted for his exceptional |
---|
26 | 26 | | memory for historical facts; he was a man of many interests and an |
---|
27 | 27 | | avid baseball fan, and he took great joy in living each day to the |
---|
28 | 28 | | fullest; and |
---|
29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband, father, and |
---|
30 | 30 | | grandfather, and he leaves behind memories that will be cherished |
---|
31 | 31 | | forever by his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it |
---|
32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
---|
33 | 33 | | Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
---|
34 | 34 | | family of Efrain Jesus Laurel; and, be it further |
---|
35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
---|
36 | 36 | | his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
---|
37 | 37 | | Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
