11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 830
22 WHEREAS, The Texas Senate is pleased to recognize the
33 officers and staff of Region VII of the Texas Department of
44 Public Safety for their commitment to protecting and serving
55 the legislators and state employees of the Capitol Complex in
66 Austin; and
77 WHEREAS, Since September 1991, the men and women of
88 Region VII have been responsible for the security of the 46
99 square-block area around the State Capitol that encompasses
1010 many state government facilities; supervised by the regional
1111 commander, the region's staff includes commissioned and
1212 noncommissioned personnel who are divided into details that
1313 cover the complex; and
1414 WHEREAS, Their responsibilities include providing police
1515 and security patrol of the Capitol grounds, traffic supervision
1616 and enforcement, parking administration, protection for visiting
1717 dignitaries, monitoring surveillance cameras, and staffing the
1818 x-ray machines and metal detectors at the Capitol's entrances; in
1919 addition, the region's skilled and dedicated personnel also
2020 investigate crimes, conduct vulnerability assessments to
2121 mitigate risk, and deal with crowd control during rallies and
2222 demonstrations on the Capitol grounds; and
2323 WHEREAS, For nearly three decades, the officers of Region
2424 VII of the DPS have worked tirelessly to maintain law, order, and
2525 civility in the Capitol Complex, allowing the state's
2626 legislators and employees to safely and securely conduct the
2727 people's business; now, therefore, be it
2828 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th
2929 Legislature, hereby commend Region VII of the Texas Department of
3030 Public Safety for its outstanding record of protecting the
3131 Capitol Complex in Austin and extend to the region's officers and
3232 civilian staff sincere best wishes for continued success in their
3333 important work; and, be it further
3434 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
3535 prepared for Region VII as an expression of gratitude and high
3636 regard by the Texas Senate.
