1	1	SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 830
2	2	WHEREAS, The Texas Senate is pleased to recognize the
3	3	officers and staff of Region VII of the Texas Department of
4	4	Public Safety for their commitment to protecting and serving
5	5	the legislators and state employees of the Capitol Complex in
6	6	Austin; and
7	7	WHEREAS, Since September 1991, the men and women of
8	8	Region VII have been responsible for the security of the 46
9	9	square-block area around the State Capitol that encompasses
10	10	many state government facilities; supervised by the regional
11	11	commander, the region's staff includes commissioned and
12	12	noncommissioned personnel who are divided into details that
13	13	cover the complex; and
14	14	WHEREAS, Their responsibilities include providing police
15	15	and security patrol of the Capitol grounds, traffic supervision
16	16	and enforcement, parking administration, protection for visiting
17	17	dignitaries, monitoring surveillance cameras, and staffing the
18	18	x-ray machines and metal detectors at the Capitol's entrances; in
19	19	addition, the region's skilled and dedicated personnel also
20	20	investigate crimes, conduct vulnerability assessments to
21	21	mitigate risk, and deal with crowd control during rallies and
22	22	demonstrations on the Capitol grounds; and
23	23	WHEREAS, For nearly three decades, the officers of Region
24	24	VII of the DPS have worked tirelessly to maintain law, order, and
25	25	civility in the Capitol Complex, allowing the state's
26	26	legislators and employees to safely and securely conduct the
27	27	people's business; now, therefore, be it
28	28	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th
29	29	Legislature, hereby commend Region VII of the Texas Department of
30	30	Public Safety for its outstanding record of protecting the
31	31	Capitol Complex in Austin and extend to the region's officers and
32	32	civilian staff sincere best wishes for continued success in their
33	33	important work; and, be it further
34	34	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
35	35	prepared for Region VII as an expression of gratitude and high
36	36	regard by the Texas Senate.
