5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with |

6 | 6 | | the passing of Fred G. Rodriguez of San Antonio on May 18, 2019, |

7 | 7 | | at the age of 79; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Born to Dr. Mamiliano Juan and Rebecca Garza |
---|
9 | 9 | | Rodriguez on October 10, 1939, in Rio Grande City, Fred Rodriguez |
---|
10 | 10 | | grew up with five siblings, Evangeline, Judy, Jim, Dolores, and |
---|
11 | 11 | | Marty; an alumnus of Texas A&M University, he went on to earn a |
---|
12 | 12 | | juris doctor degree from The University of Texas at Austin and to |
---|
13 | 13 | | serve in the United States Army; and |
---|
14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, In the course of a successful career in law that |
---|
15 | 15 | | spanned more than half a century, Mr. Rodriguez worked in the |
---|
16 | 16 | | Bexar County Criminal District Attorney's Office and the United |
---|
17 | 17 | | States Attorney's Office, where he was the first assistant for |
---|
18 | 18 | | the Western District of Texas; in 1987, he became the first |
---|
19 | 19 | | Hispanic to be elected Bexar County criminal district attorney; |
---|
20 | 20 | | over the years, he received commendations from the United |
---|
21 | 21 | | States Attorney General's Office, the United States Postal |
---|
22 | 22 | | Service, and the FBI; and |
---|
23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, In 1978, Mr. Rodriguez married the former Carolyn |
---|
24 | 24 | | Walker, and the couple enjoyed four decades of love and |
---|
25 | 25 | | companionship; Mr. Rodriguez took great pride in his two |
---|
26 | 26 | | children, Sabrina and Travis, and he doted on his grandson, |
---|
27 | 27 | | Frederic; a lifelong athlete, he competed in the Senior Olympics |
---|
28 | 28 | | for many years; and |
---|
29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, While the death of Fred Rodriguez brings |
---|
30 | 30 | | immeasurable sorrow to his family and friends, he leaves behind a |
---|
31 | 31 | | legacy that will long be treasured by all those who held him dear; |
---|
32 | 32 | | now, therefore, be it |
---|
33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
---|
34 | 34 | | Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life of Fred |
---|
35 | 35 | | G. Rodriguez and extend sincere condolences to his loved ones; |
