SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 93 WHEREAS, February of 2019 has been designated National Career and Technical Education Month; and WHEREAS, For more than a century, career and technical education has offered students in secondary school the opportunity to gain academic, technical, and employability skills that will help them achieve true career readiness; and WHEREAS, Nearly 1.4 million Texas students are enrolled in one or more career and technical education courses in 1,207 school districts and charter schools throughout the state; and WHEREAS, These students participate in authentic, meaningful experiences which improve the quality of their education by offering opportunities to apply academic knowledge and skills from across the curriculum; and WHEREAS, Career and technical education is a vital and integral part of the Foundation High School Program and offers students pathways to earn recognized endorsements, performance acknowledgements, and industry-validated credentials; and WHEREAS, There are numerous career and technical student organizations in this state, and these organizations instill in their members the values, knowledge, and skills to be patriotic citizens prepared to fully engage as effective leaders in the formidable and noble task of self-government in our constitutional republic; and WHEREAS, Career and technical education contributes significantly to college readiness; it provides students with career exploration opportunities early in their educational experience, which enables them to make informed decisions about their academic coursework, programs of study, and career pathways, and integrated programs of study link secondary and postsecondary education; and WHEREAS, Ensuring that employers have access to a qualified workforce is a crucial part of maintaining productivity among the business and industry communities and promoting continued American economic growth and global competitiveness; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th Legislature, hereby recognize February of 2019 as Career and Technical Education Month in Texas and welcome to the Texas Capitol the elected student leaders of the various career and technical student organizations, congratulate them on their achievements, thank them for their leadership of their fellow students, and wish them a productive, insightful day of witnessing the legislative process.
