11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 93
22 WHEREAS, February of 2019 has been designated National
33 Career and Technical Education Month; and
44 WHEREAS, For more than a century, career and technical
55 education has offered students in secondary school the
66 opportunity to gain academic, technical, and employability
77 skills that will help them achieve true career readiness; and
88 WHEREAS, Nearly 1.4 million Texas students are enrolled in
99 one or more career and technical education courses in 1,207
1010 school districts and charter schools throughout the state; and
1111 WHEREAS, These students participate in authentic,
1212 meaningful experiences which improve the quality of their
1313 education by offering opportunities to apply academic knowledge
1414 and skills from across the curriculum; and
1515 WHEREAS, Career and technical education is a vital and
1616 integral part of the Foundation High School Program and offers
1717 students pathways to earn recognized endorsements, performance
1818 acknowledgements, and industry-validated credentials; and
1919 WHEREAS, There are numerous career and technical student
2020 organizations in this state, and these organizations instill in
2121 their members the values, knowledge, and skills to be patriotic
2222 citizens prepared to fully engage as effective leaders in the
2323 formidable and noble task of self-government in our
2424 constitutional republic; and
2525 WHEREAS, Career and technical education contributes
2626 significantly to college readiness; it provides students with
2727 career exploration opportunities early in their educational
2828 experience, which enables them to make informed decisions about
2929 their academic coursework, programs of study, and career
3030 pathways, and integrated programs of study link secondary and
3131 postsecondary education; and
3232 WHEREAS, Ensuring that employers have access to a
3333 qualified workforce is a crucial part of maintaining
3434 productivity among the business and industry communities and
3535 promoting continued American economic growth and global
3636 competitiveness; now, therefore, be it
3737 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th
3838 Legislature, hereby recognize February of 2019 as Career and
3939 Technical Education Month in Texas and welcome to the Texas
4040 Capitol the elected student leaders of the various career and
4141 technical student organizations, congratulate them on their
4242 achievements, thank them for their leadership of their fellow
4343 students, and wish them a productive, insightful day of
4444 witnessing the legislative process.
