| 3 | 3 | | Career and Technical Education Month; and |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | WHEREAS, For more than a century, career and technical |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | education has offered students in secondary school the |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | opportunity to gain academic, technical, and employability |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | skills that will help them achieve true career readiness; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Nearly 1.4 million Texas students are enrolled in |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | one or more career and technical education courses in 1,207 |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | school districts and charter schools throughout the state; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, These students participate in authentic, |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | meaningful experiences which improve the quality of their |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | education by offering opportunities to apply academic knowledge |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | and skills from across the curriculum; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Career and technical education is a vital and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | integral part of the Foundation High School Program and offers |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | students pathways to earn recognized endorsements, performance |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | acknowledgements, and industry-validated credentials; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, There are numerous career and technical student |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | organizations in this state, and these organizations instill in |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | their members the values, knowledge, and skills to be patriotic |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | citizens prepared to fully engage as effective leaders in the |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | formidable and noble task of self-government in our |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | constitutional republic; and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Career and technical education contributes |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | significantly to college readiness; it provides students with |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | career exploration opportunities early in their educational |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | experience, which enables them to make informed decisions about |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | their academic coursework, programs of study, and career |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | pathways, and integrated programs of study link secondary and |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | postsecondary education; and |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | WHEREAS, Ensuring that employers have access to a |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | qualified workforce is a crucial part of maintaining |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | productivity among the business and industry communities and |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | promoting continued American economic growth and global |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | competitiveness; now, therefore, be it |

| 37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | Legislature, hereby recognize February of 2019 as Career and |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | Technical Education Month in Texas and welcome to the Texas |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | Capitol the elected student leaders of the various career and |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | technical student organizations, congratulate them on their |
|---|
| 42 | 42 | | achievements, thank them for their leadership of their fellow |
|---|
| 43 | 43 | | students, and wish them a productive, insightful day of |
|---|
| 44 | 44 | | witnessing the legislative process. |
