| 10 | 12 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 11 | 13 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter G, Chapter 38, Education Code, is |
|---|
| 12 | 14 | | amended by adding Section 38.353 to read as follows: |
|---|
| 13 | 15 | | Sec. 38.353. SUICIDE PREVENTION INFORMATION REQUIRED ON |
|---|
| 14 | 16 | | CERTAIN STUDENT IDENTIFICATION CARDS. Each student identification |
|---|
| 15 | 17 | | card issued by a public school to a student in grade six or higher: |
|---|
| 16 | 18 | | (1) must have printed on the card the contact |
|---|
| 17 | 19 | | information for: |
|---|
| 18 | 20 | | (A) the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline; |
|---|
| 19 | 21 | | and |
|---|
| 20 | 22 | | (B) the Crisis Text Line; and |
|---|
| 21 | 23 | | (2) may have printed on the card the contact |
|---|
| 22 | 24 | | information for a local suicide prevention hotline, if available. |
|---|
| 23 | 25 | | SECTION 2. Subchapter Z, Chapter 51, Education Code, is |
|---|
| 24 | 26 | | amended by adding Section 51.91941 to read as follows: |
|---|
| 25 | 27 | | Sec. 51.91941. SUICIDE PREVENTION INFORMATION REQUIRED ON |
|---|
| 26 | 28 | | STUDENT IDENTIFICATION CARD. (a) In this section, "institution of |
|---|
| 27 | 29 | | higher education" has the meaning assigned by Section 61.003. |
|---|
| 28 | 30 | | (b) Each student identification card issued by an |
|---|
| 29 | 31 | | institution of higher education: |
|---|
| 30 | 32 | | (1) must have printed on the card the contact |
|---|
| 31 | 33 | | information for: |
|---|
| 32 | 34 | | (A) the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline; |
|---|
| 33 | 35 | | and |
|---|
| 34 | 36 | | (B) the Crisis Text Line; and |
|---|
| 35 | 37 | | (2) may have printed on the card the contact |
|---|
| 36 | 38 | | information for: |
|---|
| 37 | 39 | | (A) the campus police department or security for |
|---|
| 38 | 40 | | the campus at which the student to whom the card is issued regularly |
|---|
| 39 | 41 | | attends classes or, if the campus does not have a campus police |
|---|
| 40 | 42 | | department or security, a local nonemergency police contact; |
|---|
| 41 | 43 | | (B) the campus health clinic for the campus at |
|---|
| 42 | 44 | | which the student to whom the card is issued regularly attends |
|---|
| 43 | 45 | | classes or, if the campus does not have a health clinic, a local |
|---|
| 44 | 46 | | health clinic; and |
|---|
| 45 | 47 | | (C) a local suicide prevention hotline, if |
|---|
| 46 | 48 | | available. |
|---|
| 47 | 49 | | SECTION 3. Sections 38.353 and 51.91941, Education Code, as |
|---|
| 48 | 50 | | added by this Act, apply only to a student identification card |
|---|
| 49 | 51 | | issued on or after the effective date of this Act. |
|---|
| 50 | 52 | | SECTION 4. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 51 | 53 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 52 | 54 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 53 | 55 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 54 | 56 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2021. |
|---|
