55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to removing or renaming certain objects and structures
88 located in or near the Capitol.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Chapter 443, Government Code, is amended by
1111 adding Section 443.01527 to read as follows:
1212 Sec. 443.01527. REMOVAL OF CERTAIN ITEMS FROM PUBLIC
1313 DISPLAY. Not later than December 31, 2021, the board shall remove
1414 the following items from public display:
1515 (1) the portrait of Albert Sidney Johnson located in
1616 the senate chamber;
1717 (2) the cannons located on the south grounds of the
1818 Capitol and near the south entrance to the Capitol building;
1919 (3) the Confederate Soldiers' Monument located on the
2020 south grounds of the Capitol;
2121 (4) the portrait of Richard William "Dick" Dowling
2222 located in the house chamber;
2323 (5) Hood's Texas Brigade Monument located on the east
2424 grounds of the Capitol;
2525 (6) the portrait of Jefferson Davis located in the
2626 senate chamber; and
2727 (7) Terry's Texas Rangers Monument located on the
2828 south grounds of the Capitol.
2929 SECTION 2. Section 2165.251(a), Government Code, is amended
3030 to read as follows:
3131 (a) The space in the old State Board of Insurance State
3232 Office Building, located on San Jacinto Street between 11th and
3333 12th streets in Austin, the Sam Houston Building, and the
3434 Jackson-Webber [John H. Reagan] Building are allocated to the
3535 legislature and legislative agencies for their use.
3636 SECTION 3. (a) The state office building located on the
3737 south side of 15th Street between Congress Avenue and Colorado
3838 Street in Austin, previously known as the John H. Reagan Building,
3939 is renamed the Jackson-Webber Building in honor of Nathaniel
4040 Jackson and John Webber.
4141 (b) As soon as practicable following the effective date of
4242 this Act, the Texas Facilities Commission shall implement the name
4343 change made by Subsection (a) of this section.
4444 SECTION 4. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021.
