| 5 | 11 | | relating to the membership of the board of managers for certain |

| 6 | 12 | | emergency communication districts. |

| 7 | 13 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 8 | 14 | | SECTION 1. Section 772.306(o), Health and Safety Code, is |
|---|
| 9 | 15 | | amended to read as follows: |
|---|
| 10 | 16 | | (o) In a [an emergency communication] district subject to |
|---|
| 11 | 17 | | this subchapter located wholly [entirely] in a county with a |
|---|
| 12 | 18 | | population of less than 40,000 [30,000], the board consists of: |
|---|
| 13 | 19 | | (1) the appropriate members listed in Subsection (c); |
|---|
| 14 | 20 | | and |
|---|
| 15 | 21 | | (2) a peace officer licensed under Chapter 1701, |
|---|
| 16 | 22 | | Occupations Code, appointed by the county sheriff. |
|---|
| 17 | 23 | | SECTION 2. The sheriff of a county to which Section |
|---|
| 18 | 24 | | 772.306(o), Health and Safety Code, as amended by this Act, applies |
|---|
| 19 | 25 | | shall appoint a peace officer to the board of managers as required |
|---|
| 20 | 26 | | by Section 772.306(o) as soon as practicable after the effective |
|---|
| 21 | 27 | | date of this Act. |
|---|
| 22 | 28 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021. |
